Ok so I tried to start the wreck I have... My mate desperatly wants to hear how it sounds with no exhaust... So I plugged in the correct ECU charged the battery, turned the key, got reds, but nothing else happens.. I cant hear the fuel pump and the starter does not turn...

The car is a 325E 6cyl Automatic, and yes its in park and I have tried it with the brake pedal down...

What could it be?

Am I right in thinking that you've bought a crash damaged car?
Have you ever had it running?
Have you done anything else apart from remove the exhaust?

sounds like imob probs if it has one fitted.
or there is a switch, inhibitor that only allows the car to start in P and i think N,
try moving the shifter about and trying it,it might free it up if it's been stood a while.

Yes I bought a crash damaged car and I have never started it. The only thing I have removed engine wise is the exhaust. I can move the shifter about freely no problems at all.

I was thinking imobiliser aswell as the starter does not turn. Is there anything else?

you can put a live to the starter and 1 to the pump, you need to ark the pre engage live to the starter live.
be careful not to earth out on the engine or engine bay.

if your battery is charged you can just arc the starter as above without adding a live as it's already live.

Mike,

If you look at the back of the starter motor you will see that you have a heavy wire connected on to a bolt secured with a nut. This is battery (+ve), next to it you have a wire with a spade connector, this actuates the solinoid. If you make a connection between the +ve and the terminal with the spade connection you should turn over the starter motor. With ignition on this may start the motor.

you'd need to take some wire from your live battery to the live on your fuel pump.
i add an inline fuse to the wire 1st. then hook it up to the live on your fuel pump,
under the black plate beneath the rear seat behind the drivers seat.

do both of these and it will run 8)

or should.

OK the Diagnostic plug is the one at the front of the motor that sits right near the inlet manifold and dipstick and has a black cover? Is the fuel pump relay in the fuse box. A quick search revealed it is orange.
