right... i have been away for the past few days, i got back and started the turd up on the drive... it started turn of the key.. i could hear a really loud... and i do mean really loud ticking noise.. and no it wasnt the lifters (they are loud but this was far louder)
i drove down the road and i could still hear the bastard... so i gave it a bit... and drove for about a mile and the tick was gone... anyone have any idea what this could be??
im not going to chuck money at the shit box of an engine... my reasons being.. cylinders 3+4 are down on compression.. it dosent idle correctly (revs dip when i come to a stand still) and its filthy inside...
so in typical fashion im after another engine... i went to the bay and searched and got some guys number, the engine has done 130k and its from an auto 328 sport, its still in the car.. i phoned the guy up and its still in the car.. he started it up over the phone... turn of the key and it started.. he blipped the throttle and it reved like a mad man(unlike my engine) he gave me the chassis number and i phoned bmw G.B they confirmed that it had allot of work carried out at 40k engine block, crank, ect, ect... now do i go over there with spencer and rape the engine, radiator(as my coolant system has no pressure would you @ucking believe) and all the bits i can get my hands on... or do i try and get the car sorted as is and jog it on?? i couldnt possibly sell it as it is as im as honest as the day is long, the bloke lives miles away and i will need to hire a van also.
cheers tim.
am i correct in saying the engine loom on the auto wont go in my manual motor?? it dosent have tcs so he says.. the vanos cover is black too!!

god knows mate... well at least if i get another engine it will have all the correct numbers on the block so i can tell exactly what engine it is... unlike the @ucker in the car at the moment.Rav335uk wrote:Oil pump knackered??
another option is run the car until it dies( proberbly not too long judging by the loud tick ) then find another engine in a hurry, or get another engine and air on the side of caution... either way the crank rods and pistons will be coming out of the block.

There are still plenty of recently replaced B28's knocking around with super low mileages. Just hang on and buy a proper one.. A man of your means should be on the phone to FAB, they sell great quality stuff and would be bound to have a quality motor for you, properly removed, tested and warrantied.
Otherwise just jog it on and buy a proper M3. You know you want to.

i will have an m3 next.. zi estoril blue heart breaker... but im not selling the 328is as it is... no way... from what i can see i will be replacing both bottom arms with e30 items and eccentric bushes as i have a shagged outer ball joint.. i dont like the springs on the car at the moment its way too low... iv managed to source some spanking new schnitzer springs for itold_skool wrote:There are still plenty of recently replaced B28's knocking around with super low mileages. i wont be replacing the shocks unless the mot man says otherwise.. the boot spoiler is not genuine and you can actually lift the fucker up a little from the boot... i have a hellrot replacement GENUINE spoiler to go on once its seen some paint.. im not happy with the front valance and rear bumper as they have faded.. the bonnet has a few scratches and a dent so im going to get that blown in so it looks tidy... the list goes on, my main concern is the engine at the moment.. i will hang on i suppose maybe give fab a call.... man of my means?!"?!?!?!?!?!? im a litho printer for gods sake... dont you know we are all skint lol???

iv just got off of the phone to FAB ( thanks old_skool ) they have an engine in from an auto... its done 97k and has had all the neccesary work carried out by bmw so it has an alusil block... it will come with the loom(no good to me as i will have to use the existing loom) exhaust manifold ect ect it wont come with the pas pump or the altinator.... £695 with a 3 month
warranty.... so i will be once again putting my schnitzers up for sale to cover the cost of the engine... the car will run right... mark my words.. lol.

its not the reliability mate.. its the fact that its not running correctly... i hate it when something isnt working as it should.. its not pulling like a b28 should..beemerbird wrote:Terribly unreliable, these newer enginese30bmlover wrote:cheers bird lol... yeah i hate the @ucking engine with a passion.. im going out in a second to do a vid of me thrashing it... because.. well just because!!beemerbird wrote:Tim, you hider of lights under bushel style man! i try lol... here is a tip for ya.. dont buy a e36 without taking someone with you who knows about them... the disconnected mass air flow sensor should have given it away... lives and learns.beemerbird wrote:Tim, you beautiful man, what can I say?![]()

Will you be at the pod in this turd? It does seem flat as f*ck below 3k rpm, with an M50 manifold they usually spin up a lot quicker.
