Made a discoverey today, the above are not the same as others.
The corners on a cab lid are far more rounded.
Will take a pic tomorrow to show the difference, unless of course it,s a pre facelift thang.

George, i mean the corners nearest the rear screen.
Will try and take a pic of the old bootlid laying on top of the newly fitted one tomorrow,
if i get the chance. The cars going to the bodyshop in the morning, and i,m still packing
so bit pressed for time.
Roy, i,ll pass on your grinder offer if you don,t mind. Dave,s still looking for the blade that flew
off

I would say this is a pre-facelift thing, bootlid on my cabbie looks just the same as the one on the 4 door.
Youth is wasted on the young.
When i changed the boot on my prefacelift cab it did look different and the buyer noticed it straight away to.
Not sure what the boot came off though as its one Marc (Zaust) gave me.

Just dropped the cab off for some work, and the bodyshop wallah spotted the differnce
straight away. He has offered to round the offending corners off.
Managed to take a couple of pics of the non cab bootlid fitted.

and here is the one that originally came with the car.

Now is it my slightly jaded old mincers, or are the corners on the bottom pics less sharp.

Well my mincers are probably a bit jaded too, but I'd agree that the curve in the bottom pics is more gradual.
If it ain't broke, fix it till it is

In the first couple of pics, with the lid fitted, the curve on the lid clearly does,nt
follow the contours of the lid aperture. Just wish i had better photos of the original lid
fitted.
Any younger eyes agree, mine and the Old girls have both "seen" better days.

I put a facelift boot from a 2-door onto a facelift cab a couple of years ago, and I noticed a very slght difference in he way the "point " rose at the curve. So the saloon boot just looked slightly higher at that point. It really didn't notice much at all,so it was ignored!
Has anyone checked to see if the bootlids are the same part number?

I've just done a parts no. comparison check between an '86 and an '89 bootlid. Same part number quoted for both (based on a manual 325i euro spec convertible in both cases). 41621888221Z3I wrote:I put a facelift boot from a 2-door onto a facelift cab a couple of years ago, and I noticed a very slght difference in he way the "point " rose at the curve. I'll have a butchers at mine, but I don't think it looks like that despite having come from a tin-top... still, even if it does it's going nowhere!

Hand finishing bodywork was coomon in tht "old" days, 50's cars and before, and I remember reading that when they assembled MGB bdies, they had to try several doors/bonnets/boots before they found a good fit. Wonder if that was a practice at BMW in the 80's? Doubt it .
If you did that in Bavaria you'd get a bullet in the back of the head.Z3I wrote:Didn't spot that!Ziggy wrote:I'll have a butchers at mine, but I don't think it looks like that despite having come from a tin-top... still, even if it does it's going nowhere!
