Hi ,
I am getting a knock from the rear of my 316 touring, which I am sure is the rear subframe bushes (it was noted on the last MOT)
Anyway I was thinking as it done 116,000 there may be some other bushes linkages that need replacing while I am at it.
Can anybody point me in the right direction?

Thank you

Other bushes at the rear are the trailing arm bushes, these rarely fail (worth a look though), there are also the top mounts (top of the shocks, see Alex's thread here for a pic: clicky) and the diff bush.

A well known upgrade is to use E46 cab rear top mounts and a Z3M diff bush, here's my old and new diffs, the new (cleaner) one has a new z3m bush.

Just replaced the whole rear on my E30 316i with 325 polybushed disc conversion (for rallying). As an alternative to uprated strut top mounts I've used standard mounts but added the Z3 reinforcing plate ('bout £20 pr), which fits inside the car sandwiching the bodywork between the mount and the plate...now much stronger.

The standard top-mounts will still fail though with teh reinforcing plates...

Both uprated top-mounts and the reinforcing plates should be fitted together.

I believe it is the rubber bit that is the 'uprated' part for the rear top mounts..
