cable ties on the rad are awesome, they've held the bottom of my rad on for the last threee years or so

Got the day off work tomorrow, just printed off my insurance certificate, ready for my first proper ride out in the car since getting it 2 years ago! VIC check at 1.40pm, hopefully have some rent in the screen later in the afternoon

It was a CAT C

It just checks that it is numbers matching basically

Vehicle Identity Check.
In Lee's case his car was a cat 'C' insurance write off,check is to make sure the car has not been 'rung'.
My touring also required a ViC,but because it was an import from France,on French plates.
All the guy was interested in was the VIN number and engine number so that a V5 could be issued,with an 'age related' regestration mark.I turned down the latter and used a retained mark!

Yep indeed, VIC check passed and it has some rent in the screen.

Few problems though. Horrible clunking from the front end over speed humps and potholes etc. Just discovered after taking the driver front wheel off and looking around that the collar nut on the strut has come undone completely and the insert is just flapping about. So am in the process of removing the strut etc.

However, of more concern is a diff that is absolutely howling for mercy. Or at least that's what I believe the noise is. Going to investigate that once I've rebuilt this strut. Have booked tomorrow off work now, so there remains a chance this will come to the pod.

4 17 mm bolts and 8mm allen bolts on the drive shafts mate

Aye, LSD will be going in.

I'm still on the fence with whether I like it or not. The horrendous howl coming from the back end/ underneath kind of ruined the journey. But it rides very well. Seems quite sluggish bottom end wise (presumably a price you pay for the M50 inlet manifold and probably the S5 exhaust manifold). The exhaust manifold may be too loud for my liking.

I think once it has had a bit more of a shakedown, I'll look at getting it remapped and see what that brings, but it doesn't feel like a missile

Get out there now and get the diff swapped. Have you checked there is oil in the one that is on the car?

The diff in the car may be low or empty on oil as it did get stored on the side by mistake and a load did leak out of the breather. I have no idea what ratio it is, but it was doing 3k at 70mph

Shouldn't be a wheel bearing as all 4 are brand new.

Just found the windy gun and spring compressors so will get this strut finished and then have a look at the rear end. May run it in gear with the arse in the air to see if it isn't anything else

I'd just lob the LSD in & see if that fixes it - you're clearly going to want to do that anyway so why waste time on anything else?

Sounds like current diff is a 3.64 or there abouts,any play in the prop centre bearing?

If it's an orig diff out of the 318 touring won't it be lower than that? Best to run it on the jack like you said mate.

3.64 gives 75mph @3k, id guess its a 3.91.

Anyway ive been following this thread from day one and im glad to see its (almost) complete.

I ran it with the arse in the air and there is all sorts of clunking and grating noises coming from the diff, so I'll have that out in the morning and wrestle the LSD in. Will check the other drivetrain components for wear too
