We have had to through loads of new cats out because of new eu codes. If we sell a none code cat we get a 5k fine. Brand new cat you could weld in if you want mate? Or maybe get a 100 cell sporty affair. Or just leave it as it's sorted.

Never even thought about the emissions problem - has anyone ever mapped an M52B28 to pass a test without a cat? Even if it was a horrible map, you could have an 'MoT chip', that you just pop in once a year. I'd always just assumed the shell was older so this wouldn't be a problem.
Hmmm... what if the VIC check found the car was actually older....???

My S50 is under CAT emissions, without having a CAT, you wouldn't need an 'MOT' chip.. Well bugger me with a hot poker! It's only gone and passed the MOT
I want to say a personal thankyou to Gareth who drove over from Manchester last night with a very nice set of smiley headlamps, without which it would not have been possible to pass the MOT.
So next plan is to chase up VOSA about my VIC check so I can get some rent put in the screen and hopefully make it to the pod next weekend.
A milestone achieved.

At last!
I would say this is the end to an epic story - but I guess being as it's a project it will never be finished!

Don't think it has set in yet, the wife said you don't seem that happy.
Problem is I'm in the hands of VOSA now and how quickly they get me sorted for the VIC check. I phoned them just now to see what was going on, was told they can't chase it until my application has been pending for at least 3 working days, which is Monday. Even then I have no idea how soon the appointment will take place, so it is still not 100% I'll be in it at the pod. I can't even drive it about until that is done, but I'm used to looking at it on the driveway

ViC check is a mere formality, remember mine well, guy came out of the office and asked where the LHD bemmer was...
Offered to take him down the road in it and he commented that he had viewed the fitted engine and exhaust and he needed no further info!

Nope, the VIC check is a vehicle identity check, needs to be done when a written off car is returned to the road. doesn't take a lot to write a E30 off in the eyes of an insurance company so we're getting quite good at this!willnz wrote:What is vic by the way? We have to get a LV (low volume) certification here in New Zealand for this type of conversion. Is it the same sort of thing?
there is no specific inspection for car modifications, only the usual safety checks at the yearly MOT test.
