Interestingly I bought a Sport from Northern Ireland in May/June. Couldn't get tax for the car in Northern Ireland on a Saturday as Post Offices only do renewals and the Central Tax office in Belfast was closed.
Drove it onto the Ferry, then off the Ferry and home. Piece of cake. If it's the South, can't help, sorry.

Do you mean Northern Ireland (part of the UK and therefore under the same rules and regs as mainland UK) or Southern Ireland (where things are done differently). An NI car is a UK car so your only 'problems' will be logistics (ie getting it on a ferry).....
If it ain't broke, fix it till it is
taxing the car is slightly different and the plates are too.. if you buy a car over here the only difficulty is re-registering it when you cross the water, as the english authorities will have no record of your number plate.
though a few forms and a few weeks is all it takes.

My car was originally registered in Derry, and still has the NI number plate. I don't believe there is any need to re - register the car if it's from the northern end of Ireland.asmith88 wrote:taxing the car is slightly different and the plates are too.. if you buy a car over here the only difficulty is re-registering it when you cross the water, as the english authorities will have no record of your number plate.

You can also delude yourself that you have a 'personal number plate' if you drive around mainland UK with NI plate (if that is your thing

Chances are that yours has been transferred with th NI plate as my car was, there was no charge however to get an English logbook.

It's true, generally registered Irish cars will be more expensive than the UK as we have to pay Vehicle Registration Tax (VRT) on importing the car, which is 28% of the open market sale value (usually picked out of their ass).
Sports in particular got hit big time with them costing €2,000 on VRT alone.
Road tax for sports is high here too as tax on a 2.5l car is €1,120 per annum.
So include the running costs (ie. maintenance, petrol & insurance) they are quite expensive to run.
There are some clean e30's here, but as everywhere there are plenty of shitters and cowbows...!!!
Back in the day, the money was not in Ireland to order many 325 sports, so the vast majority of them here would be imports.
Your best bet would be to register on e30owners.com, as someone in the know-how, who is local enough to the car to have a look at it to give an honest opinion about it.
Not sure about the paperwork as it has obviously been the other way around for me.

Hi
I have bought a few cars fom germany
As the Eire is in the EU its easy, you need the orginal irish equivalant of the V5, then you need to insure it, MOT it, then take the paper work to you local DVLA office and then procces it, more mony a few days later you get a new uk v5 and reg number & tax disk, go buy some number plates and you are on the road.
Costs about 150 to sort out, and you can insure/MOT the car on the chassis number.

Good luck is all I will say
Alot of the Sports that were diffed and raped over the years are all either broken or dead now Dan so it's really only pretty decent ones left...
The bad ones aren't selling as the people that want a Sport are only looking for good ones here too so it'll be easily known if it's a shitter by looking at the price and asking a few people on E30owners to have a look at it or if they know the car if people are interested.
The diffing brigade has well moved on from E30s now to jap stuff like 200sx' as they don't understand the fact or have the commitment that an E30 can be made so much better
M42 rightness above 6500rpm, nobody can hear you scream
Thanks for advise guy's been a big help, will start looking into it, in the coming weeks once i sell my current car.Sold my J plate sport last year to another zoner wish i'd kept it, just cant get these sports out of my system. luv them.
