eva finde out if any 1 has done a auto if no im on it and looks to be going ok so far

the only thing is the slector on the m30 auto box is cable so there is a few small holes just under the carpet pop one out put the cable through the slector its self i used a e34 and droped in to the e30 where the old one was simple will post pics at some point

Hi all, i cannot see a brown temp sensor on my m30 block to swap for an m20 item as described at the beginning of this thread. I only have a black one and a blue one, do i swap it for the black one?

Google Spox motorsports Scotti, they make them, bit expensive though.

i have made my own mounts, made them out of wood and got local engineering firm to copy them out of steel, cost £90.00. Just a little unsure about this brown temp sensor now!

It'll be the black on then, as the Blue/Brown are next to each other at the front of the block.

Hi guys,
sorry to thread-jump.I'm just about to start an M30 swap on an '89 316.
I'm currently concerned about the wiring swap, i have a running E34 535i to put in o thinking of swapping the whole loom in.
I'll get on the new members thread and let everyone know my plans..

Use the M30 loom, it plugs straight into the E30 body loom

you need to swap two wire over on the M30 loom to make it run correctly, its all on the first page of this thread

just done my conversion , the thread made the job a doddle, made up my own solid mounts and will be producing them for £75 a set ,solid and non solid versons for use with e30 rubbers , i was very impressed that there wasnt much vibration with solid mounts

Good thread! My ECONO/MPG gauge does not work after I did the swap.

"To get the 'economy swingometer thingy' working you need to swap pins in the M30 loom:
Pin 3 (black and white) and pin 8 (black and purple). "

One doubt i have an 89' 316i M40 Coupe LHD the headers/manifold won't have problems with the steering coupling/linkage right? Will it (the engine) conflict with something else?

Im not 100% but i think you will be ok, linkage is quite low down and manifold is quite high up

Is the brake servo the same as RHD

Yes the engine bay is almost empty.
The servo is the round/oval black casing near the brake master cylinder right?

A e32 brake master cilinder i've read its a perfect fit for an upgrade of the e30 one, will it fit with this engine swap?

Excellent guide! I am planning to do a M30b35 conversion next month hopefully! The only part I didn't understand is about the M20 engine loom? Is this just plug and play or do I have to use a M30 engine loom? I'm probably being a numpty :/

not sure if this has been mentioned yet but its early so i cant concentrate long enough to read the full thread yet!

what should be done with the front suspension on my touring as it will obviously be far too soft to cope with the m30 (currently a 1.6) it is lowered around 60mm and i would like to keep it that way

Mine dropped about an extra 5mm on the front with normal 6 cylinder springs so if you buy 40mm springs with some E90 tophats you should be at a 60mm drop. (E90 tophats lower it by 15mm)

There is a list on here somewhere of spring rates shocks etc of all E30's but its been a few years since ive seen it.

Yeah, the cheapness of 3.5s makes the under-powered 3-litre a waste of time really.

I've had E36 and Z3 racks (exactly the same externally) and with an M30 it's a headache!

On sudden hard left hand turns my exhaust manifold leans nicely on the steering coupling, locking the steering!
Not nice, so I'm very careful.

Extensive manifold modifications are required, and stiffer engine mounts could help too but I've not got round to that yet.
I'm not too fussed about sorting the problem as I'm currently working on a turbo conversion that should sort out that problem anyway.

I have the M30 3.5 it already had a six branch on it when I bought it and I had the same trouble hitting the steering column shaft on a hard left bend, this is with a purple tag rack, I had some aluminium spacers made to use with Rover V8 engine mounts that made it a lot stiffer and stopped the engine shifting over
