Oh Dan, by the way, we were a little hasty when extracting the M52 lump and gut the fuel pipes and now I notice there are some funny connectors to the fuel rail. What's the solution here?

Also, are all M52 injectors pink?

M3 cover matt

Only 2.8 injectors are pink, fuel lines are quick release onto the rail and jubilee clip onto the hard lines, it was a bad idea cutting them as there isnt much room to clamp a standard hose onto the fuel rail. Its in an awkward place and if it ever starts leaking you will be kicking yourself round the garden :)
If I were you id be getting down the scrap yard for some complete flexi pipes, E39 pipes are the longest ive found

I'm not likely to be able to get down to a scrap yard any time soon, so I'm panicking about this fuel hose business

What other connectors may fit from fancy motorsport setups such as people like this?

Actually I've just looked on one of the parts catalogues and it looks like the feed and return hoses are probably about £20 each new from BMW, so may just do that.

Or just buy two of these - http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/BRASS-PIPE-FITTIN ... _500wt_956

£40 odd for a couple of fuel hoses is a bit over the top dont you think

yeah I've just ordered a pair of those connectors, what a spacktard for cutting the hoses instead of just undoing them from the hard pipes

A little bit more progress tonight, continued with the wiring loom adventure and also some plumbing. Had to pester Dan once more with "where does that plug go" etc, thanks mate, absolute legend.

Trial fitted the M50 inlet manifold and connected up the ICV and plumbing underneath just so I'm familiar with where everything goes and know it fits before it goes back in.

Should be ready for going back in at the weekend, looks filthy

Oh by the way, what sort of oil would be recommended in this.

5W40 or 10W40 and is it worth bothering with fully synthetic shizzle or the normal semi synth?

Just been down the local motor factors on my lunch hour for a good reaming on some consumables.

Bought 10ltrs of Shell Helix fully synth 5W30
5ltrs of Antifreeze
Oil filter (fram)
new drive belt
1ltr of atf fluid for the steering

£120 after getting £20 discount knocked off, grrrr

It's all the little bits that add up isn't it, but at least it is done now.

Bonnet guy came today, served him the driver door also :)

Interior got collected today and I'm £200 richer, sold the OBC and stalks for £50, happy days.

Also, had a productive day, got the engine & box back in. Just got a piece of hose to buy to go from the back of the head to the heater pipe and also mate the fuel pipes up, connect up ECU etc and pray the EWS is feeling co-operative. Then tomorrow the plan is to get underneath and get the prop bolted up and any other nonsense that needs doing under there. Waiting on a 320 shifter rod which seems to have gone astray in the post.

This is the easiest I have ever put an engine in this car, mind you is about the 4th time now :)

This is how it looks tonight, manifold is just mocked up as that needs to come off to connect the heater pipe on the bulkhead and then also get the wiring harness cover fitted etc on the bulkhead to hide the spagettt. E36 turdos should be going the journey next week I think.
