right iv recently used up all my meguires wax and im now after something alot better, someone mentioned zainio to me a while back but i cant find it anywhere?? any help would be appreciated guys

Zymol's my favourite. Superb to used, last forever, best shine, no chalk, goes on every surface.

Dig deep in your pocket to buy a tub though.

I've been using it for 10 years now, and I'm a dedicated car polisher! Only on my 3rd tub in those years, it just seems to last forever. Price is around 45 a tub for the basic product now so its a long-term investment!

victoria concours wax [red] is worth a look in fact two coats of it will blow your socks off on a well prepped surface. will look fantastic on orange

Swissvax is better than zymol IMHO. .

but then I would say that as I'm an authourised detailer for them, however I do genuinely believe it's better stuff. The cheapest one is Onyx (£45) which I really rate. Lasts 3-6 months and a tub will do 30ish cars so it works out cheap in the long run.

Dodo is not bad stuff, but not in the SV/ Zymol league. .

Zaino is also good - if you want to go the sealant rather than wax route.

Zymol is tops i have had my pot for 3 years , you put the stuff in your hands warm it up and rub it on baby ! you will get some funny looks but its brill stuff.

RacingG, could you please explain the difference between a sealant and a wax?
Is one synthetic and one natural or something like that, or is one of them "better" on particular colours?

I'll be getting my car detailed professionally next month, and info like this will help me decide what I want.

I brought some dodo juice @ gaydo last weekend........I got some clay and a panel pot and I must say I love it..........got some funny looks at the camp site applying it with my hands to billy though lol......was real easy to use and love the way it brought billy up too x

Sorry Adam, Not sure how I have not seen this thread before? Looks like you have some sound advice here anyway.

Main thing to remember is that pretty much any wax will make the car look better but the main difference to most people is the durability of it.

Cheap waxes tend to have a very short life, More expensive waxes generally last a lot longer but can lose the edge after a while. The panel may still be protected but not looking as glossy as it once was.

As important as what wax to buy is how you maintain that finish. Some brands are a little more fussy about how they are washed and what products they are used with.

Three main waxes I'd reccomend:

Meguiars NXT wax (liquid version) - Easy to get hold of, Easy to use and a nice finish. I find it drops off very quickly.

Colinite 476s - Very durable and a clean finish, Maybe not as much of a wet look as some other waxes but a very very tough finish. Good on wheels too.

Swissvax Onyx - Entry level premium wax, A beautiful wet gloss, lasts very well and smells amazing! The only wax I'll use on my E30 now.

There are 101 other waxes out there and I have used a fair amount of them, All comes down to personal preference. They all have little traits and if I'm honest most people wouldn't notice the difference between a £3 tin of turtlewax and a premium wax.

Single most important thing in getting a great finish is the prep. A crap paintjob will just look like a waxed crap paint job.

Oh and putting wax on by hand, A total waste imo. I have tried both methods and prefer a sponge applicator.

job. Blindfold helps to accentuate the sensation.

Don't get me wrong, It is a nice way to apply it but I think it's very wasteful. I spend too much on detailing products as it is without using it faster!

Zaino, wins hands down in my book, gives an incredibly wet look gloss, if correctly applied it outlasts any wax, good value for money too. Alot of it is down to preference though, the gloss that Zaino leaves is incredible but some people feel it looks a bit plasticy, I don't see it myself, I just see a deep durable shine, you just don't get that in a wax of a similar value.

For a bit more depth on my own red car, I use Nattys Red paste wax. Smells of strawberries too.

Regardless of which wax you use, 99% of the finish will come from the initial prep work - proper wash, claybar, a good polish / paint cleanser, then topped of with a good wax or sealant.

I personally like dodo juice but there is probably better ones out there. If you use dodo juice clay you need to get some dodo juice clay lube too x x

Swissvax have a wax called Blau Weiss now and it is amazing on Bm paintwork.
Well prepped paintwork and a good application of wax should see you through at least 3-6 months without more applications.

Ps you should use half as much wax applying by hand instead of applicators as it soaks into the pads, also you cant feel grit iside an applicator pad. You can on your hand

When i wash the car, i usually wet it down with a hose and use my hands as a sort of claybar.
Not a buffty my any means, but it,s amazing the tiny bits that can,t be seen but can be felt.

Been using Meguiars Gold Class wax (paste) for a while. Fairly decent, but have to admit nothing to write home about. Will prob go down the Zymol route once this runs out.
