well........
i borrowed a set of trade plates off a mate so i could take the car out, so
i've been using the car this weekend, and it's a flying machine !
and if i'm not very much mistaken, i'd swear it has been getting faster all weekend. i dont know if this ecu can learn addaptive values?

the starter motor which had been playing up for a while, finally gave up last night. so this week i'll source another.

i've got to make a few changes to the throttle, as it's too sensitive.
the slightest movement on the pedal translates to too much throttle opening, which makes it awkward to drive in traffic.

when i decided to get this engine and other parts that i needed, it was a big gamble for me (cost), as i didn't know if it was going to work with a different ecu. but it's worked out so well, i'm very very very pleased.

That's excellent news Glenn

There will certainly be some adaption in the MSS50 ECU, so I'm not surprised it's getting better as it learns. It may just be the rev limit that needs to be increased, and you're done.

Cheers,

Ian.

Great conversion, just to let you know you cant 'borrow' trade plates unless you work for the company there registered to. I only found out after i brought my car back from manchester. :D

Let's see a Dyno sheet first. If it doesn't make significant more power than a S50B32 or B30 I can't see the point.

funny you should ask paul.
there's a guy taking a look at it on saturday, so simplecsl, i'll get back to you if it's still here on the weekend.

paul, i was waiting for someone to make me a set of camshaft position trigger wheels, that more closly resembled the s50 wheels, but after 7 weeks of promises i took my drawings to a precision engineering workshop who made me these......

There about 60kilos lighter, whether that and the other advantages offsets the cost increase is up to you.

Brilliant.

I too am interested to see the power differences but 60kgs lighter is quite significant in itself.

Interested to see what comes of the cam situation though - seems like that would be the area of concern?

Would be very cool* if this stuck down 343 or whatever the book figure is.

*it's actually very cool regardless but it would be even cooler :)

Staggering, that has to be the ultimate N/A E30 engine conversion. I reckon you could well hit the sweet spot for power/weight/balance. Very excited to see the rest of this thread!

Much better idea.. I like the idea of a magnesium blocked twin turbo 3 litre... (that's the one isn't it?) winkeye

Though, for me, the ultimate is an LS1/2/3/4/5/6 swap.

Sorry for reviving an old thread mates....Quick question, could you guide me as to who manufactured your trigger gears? I'm having a similar swap at my hands, don't want to lock the VANOS. I would appreciate your help with this mate :)

i got a small local precision engineering shop to make them for me. i took them in some drawings of what i wanted, and they made them up for me. they wern't cheap though, i think they were around £190.
