Hi, i am planning to get my e30 cabbie resprayed next month. Just wondering how much should I be paying? I want it sprayed as the same colour it is now (cirrus blue). Obviously no one here can give me the exact price but I don't want to be raped for cash by the bodyshop guy.
I was thinking around the 1 grand mark?
(also keep in mind I would want a top notch job too)

As you want a "top notch job", I'd say nearer £1500.
I'm getting a bottom-half respray (pretty-much the same as a full respray on a convertible) and it's costing me £1100. I'm not expecting perfection for that price and I'm not bothered as my car is a daily driver and there will be damage to the new paint, no matter how careful I am with it, within six months.
Also depends on where you are. Somewhere like London or surrounds you could probably add 25% on.

rule of thumb is £65 per panel - about to get a quote for my cabbie, however I have stripped it and prepared it. Big thing is baking it in an oven - far better job - wouldn't imagine postcode would come into it

That's cheap!johnt0709 wrote:rule of thumb is £65 per panel
A few months ago I had an MTech2 valance and touring tailgate spoiler done. Cost me £200 for the 2 parts. ..... I did all the prep., all the 'shop did was de-grease, prime, colour-coat, lacquer and polish.

£65 per panel?
the quote of £1500 would be more realistic i would expect. more for the top notch job required. i paid £1200 for a bare metal blue pearlescent colour spray on a totally stripped rolling shell with every panel replaced new from the main dealer and in all the door checks etc. that was 9 years ago now and that was a top notch job but cash in hand with no vat to pay.
many in my experience wont offer guarantees on jobs prepped by the cars owners themselves.

Blitz where abouts is this bodyshop mate? I'm in East London too.
My guy is in Walthamstow. Bare in mind he is doing it on mates rates aswell, 1200 seems fair!

a decent amount of money will be in the labour of touching up the dings
e30topless, many dents & dings on yours or have you done it yourself already? I ask because i've provisionally put 2k aside for mine but even that was a bit tut tut

i paid just over £1k when i took my sport to a garage down the road & i had him take the kit off & bring it up to scratch (no pun intended) with the rest of the body work & sort out any rust he found,
he's a perfectionist who won't let it go out unless HE is 100% happy & his work is very very good.
like the rest about £1500+ is about right & if possible try to check their work out first just to be on the safe side.

I paid £1500 cash and I did quite alot of the strip work, taking the headlamps off, wondows out etc.
I think anything less than 2k for a good job these days is very good. Dont see the point in spending 500,600, 1000 quid on a shit job, might as well not get it done!!

Falkster - £1500 and you had to take the windows out? Seems a bit pricey? Ill post pics when its done and you can decide then if its shit. A good flatten and polish can make a decent job good. £700 to paint and it is fully prepared. - seems reasonable. What is the hourly rate of a painter?

Well my first quote was from a place called Impact in Brighouse and they wanted £3500.
If you want a full job doing meaning all windows out, lights out, bumpers off, screen out rather than a mask up job I can't see it being done for less than 2k!

That's who I thought might be the most expensive, superb job but you do pay for it...Falkster wrote:Well my first quote was from a place called Impact in Brighouse and they wanted £3500.
