Does anybody know the specifics of steel cranks? I.e benifits/disadvantages?
Will they take any power that you can throw at them?
How much would a forged(?) steel crank cost to be custom made for a six cylinder? How about Con rods? Is there anything else that can be uprated in this area? Shells etc?

How good are normal pistons? How can these be uprated in terms of performance and reliability?

Any help greatfully apprieceated

custom crank could be anything up to 5k depending on spec

steel cranks take pretty much anything you can throw at them

Are you planing to stay N/A or turbo ?

If N/A check the two stroker/bored kits from IE, very good value IMHO

$2,400 bucks is a lot of lolly, but when you are talking Ԛ£5k for a crank it's bloody good value. I think Andy is doing it to an S50 though... Andy.

Hi guys, as Dave says its for an S50B30.

Kos, I haven't got your Pm Mate

Andy, Not sure yet, but it needs a crank anyway, so looking into all my options :) The engine is totally stripped so building it from the ground up so to speak :) Hows yours doing mate?

Have you got bad scoring on the crank bearing faces ?

Is it to far gone for it to be machined ?

Cranks are bloody enxpensive from BMW, i asked for a price for a crank for an E34 M5 3.8L. 1300 quid new and 800 for a recon plus they need your old one for exchange. Both prices are plus VAT but i think they include new bearings ?

Does the S50 all ready have a stronger crank than non-M engines ?

Mine is fine, i need to finish my adapter plate so i can get the TBs fitted and have it remapped.

The engine was mapped in my old E34 with a differant exhaust and air filter set up to what it has now in my E30 so i'm not sure its producing all the power it did in my old E34 but it does seem to run well.

And standard the 3.5 is 220bhp, so that is a damn good increase.

s50b30 is good for 9k+ on the standard bottom end apparently, no need for a different crank!!
