my 318is is givin me 15-20 mpg.

I have recently had a new engine fitted wich is sound and only as 88000 on it(bought from quarry motors).

evolve chip recently installed also

All serviced, new plugs etc, but used the existing old air filter, seems a bit dirty.

The only other fault is that it as a small oil leak (8/9 drops when parked overnight)

any suggestions wid oil leak and mpg

thanks

power wash your engine with the electrics covered so its nice and clean so you can pin point where the oil is dripping from and take it from there.

If not the blue temp, perished fuel hose? It can dribble from the injector rail feed without leaving an obvious trail of drops, but you'll have a strong smell of petrol in the engine bay if you do.

Lose the text speak or whatever it is, please! This forum uses standard English.
Doesn't need an aftermarket air filter; the car just needs putting right whatever is wrong with it.

Carbon monoxide. There is a potentiometer to adjust its level at idle on the AFM.
Needs to be adjusted with the car connected to a gas analyser.

a garage / mot station with a gas analyser. 5 minute job if it's just settings. at least you'll know if it's beyond 'tweaking' and there's a more serious underlying fault

Are you driving like a numpty?

You seem very focused on "tuning" as opposed to finding a cause of your problem. It could simply be a case of you trying to get everywhere at 90?

My car will happily do 30-35 mpg at cruising speeds but when I get a little heavy footed/enthusiastic then this drops right down.

Maybe worth trying to drive smoothly, keeping the revs below 2K as you change up through the gears. See how that does ya.

If you've just changed the engine, im assuming you have your old unit? If so, then its probably worth swapping over the coolant temp sensor. These can give bad mpg if they're reading incorrectly. Although generally when I have had them fail they usually fail fairly bad making the car unpleasant to drive.

Im still new to e30's but assuming you've got a lambda sensor? That could also make your car run rich.

It may be worth cleaning the hell out of your tail pipe, going for a spin, just normal sensible driving and then seeing how much carbon deposits are left on your pipe. If it's black and sooty then at least you know your engine is burning the fuel rather than leaking it somewhere, or visa versa.

Are you using shite fuel?

My iS can get anything from 15mpg upto 45 depending on how it's driven or what the quality of the petrol is like.
If I use good fuel, it doesn't really drop under 25 no matter how much of a prick behind the wheel I am :D

Have you checked this -I'd say you already have the answer. Other places to check are where the fuel filler pipe joins with the tank, then follow the fuel pipes down the lhs of car and look for rust.

as above, sounds like it's leaking.

areas to check are:

in the bay (hoses from the n/s/f inner wing to the engine and each end of the injector rail.
underneath. rear of the tank / filler neck areas and the hoses onto the fuel filter (just in front of the n/s/r wheel) are common suspects. have a drive, chuck it about a bit (to slop the fuel, provoking any leak) and get under there pronto for a look as petrol dries up very fast.

if it leaks more with a full tank, it's almost definately a corroded tank or filler neck

If its the injector rail pipes it drips onto the starter and is pretty dangerous. Fuel filter is in engine bay on an IS so one less thing to worry about.

thats part of your problem then ...

who uses under 2500 revs ... ever ?? you will be in too high of a gear and be opening the throttle too wide to accelerate to compensate ... wasting fuel......

clearly you arent always keepingit below 2500 revs because thats a ridiculous thing to claim and you are probably caning the car around but if you were it would be a potential cause of bad mpg

An iS driven under 2500 rpm?!?

It would hardly move!!!

They need to be between 3 and 5 to do anything!
