Good luck getting the Borbets back into production, would be interesting to see if it is possible!

They are sexy wheels, no doubt. It'd have to be staggered for me, but I guess that would involve tooling up for two lines?

For those wondering about different sizes.... (maybe someone with a set, like Neil, can shed some light here)

Are they a single piece wheel, or do the lips attach on, as in photos it looks separate to me.

I'm sure they just need to create the pattern for a particular size (like 16") but it may be scaleable (for say 15", if borbet do that?) and then attact their certain size lips on.

I'm pretty sure if they made these again we wouldn't be stuck with a particular size. 7.5j and 9j wheels would be available.

Either way, there does seem to be people out there who are interested? I may just set up email address, and get everyone whos interested in getting these wheels remade (tbh, whether you will buy them or not is a different story!) to email me just their username and forum site.

Then if I get a large reception for people wanting these wheels, pass on the login credentials to borbet and tell them to check out the love. That may just persuade them! :D

I'm not promising anybody, but the UK borbet distributers have tried to get these alloys reproduced, but borbet germany dont see it as a viable investment :? Dumbasses. So we would have Borbet UK on our site (I hope) to help push forward this demand!

What do you think about doing that? If we get these wheels into full production again, I'm sure all sizes would be available. Also, as they will be making the tooling from scratch, maybe we could ask for something ever-so slightly different, so people with the originals still have their "rare" alloys!

Let me know guys! :D

its all well and good having 40 people saying yep, ill have a set, but what are the chances of all 40 people stumping up the cash?

while its a nice rim, if i had £1.5k to spend on some wheels, it would be some deep dish bbs' any day of the week

As far as i am aware these are a one piece wheel so for each different width a different pattern will need to be made.

I know these are lovely looking wheels, i wouldn't mind a set myself but i cannot see why anyone would pay over £200 per wheel for these, for £250ish you could have Image wheels make you some custom 16x9 split rims which are probably a better quality wheel as wheel.

I'd be very surprised if if can get enough guarenteed interest as i'd of though Borbet would want some money up front rather than just some people saying they would like some and then change they're mind once it comes to having the wheels.

Have you posted on any of the VW forums as they're probably the most likely to give serious interest and also wheelwhores, pistonheads and maybe even some german/dutch/scandinavian forums.

You really need maximum exposure for something like this so the more sites you post on the better. :D

Ross - It would be for either up front group buy money, then putting the wheels back into production, or showing enough interest for them to put it back into production.

Kedge, that is the plan. Spend a few hours slumping around different forums at some point to get their interest.

Bortbet's deep dish alloys can be had brand new for £600-£650 inc vat. I'm pretty sure that people might pay a touch more for these (£650-£700) over borbet A's, BS's and T's.

I'm sure, after 10 years of being NLA, that these would gain enough interest to still be a profitable investment for borbet to reproduce. Even if interest dies out in say a year or two, or three, that they still would sell enough to justify setting up the tooling to make them. Even if they only came in one size.

I'm sure that forums would generate interest, and as a few early adopters pick up alloys, other would follow. And after all serious forum interest has been accumulated, they would still sell them on normal alloy wheel sites as much as other borbets (possibly more that the others too) so random people who dont associate with "car scenes" will still buy them.

If those three borbet designs are making enough money to sustain production, I do not see why borbet B's would be any different.

yah, there would need to be 2 dies. I'm guessing they must still have these in their loft.. Borbet don't currently produce any wheel with a machined, so perhaps this is the tooling they'd need.

I'd be happy with some 7.5 & 9 blanks, have them anodised satin bronze and machine the dish :notworthy:

vee haf vays oont means, let's make some history.

depends what sizes they make them in  the drilling the pcd, centrebore and machining the mounting face to the correct pcd are the last operations before the casting is painted. from a single casting you can get a range of offsets within reason, and a range of bolt patterns and pcds.

different cars might use the same pcd but different centre bores, will they use and oversize hole and spiggots or drill each set for a specific application.

afaik only 4-stud bms and 4-stud vw, audis and seats use the same pcd and centre bore. 4 stud vauxhalls, some rovers and probably more still use 4x100 but with different centre bores. 4 stud fiats, alfas and lancias use 4x98mm pcd which might work with wobble bolts, but their centre bore s 1mm bigger than the bmw / vw fitment.

and thats without considering widths and offsets. vws run rims with a higher offset than e30s, so more vw owners might prefer a set of 7.5s all round. vauxhalls usually run et49 offsets, what you can get away with depends on the car and the work youre prepared to do
cheers,

harry

this is a great idea as it took me nearly a year to get hold of a set. but on the other hand i wouldnt like to see lots and lots of motors wearing them. that is the appeal of these wheels, you know they are rare. dont get me wrong though, there would be alot of pats on your back if this kicks off.
did you ask about the centre caps by any chance????? wheather they make them or not?????

I like Borbets but it is a budget wheel compared to the likes of BBS. I know 9j may be a bit on the wild side for some but even on my car the dish wasn't all that big. Its 2.5" on a borbet b, borbet a has a 3" dish because of the design of the centre.

I used to sometimes think the wheels on my car looked weak i.e the dish not being deep enough

However, these babies have really caught my eye, try doing a group buy on these and just look at them prices!!! 9x16 which a 3" outer you cannot beat the look of a splitty!

They are nice, but I'm not a big fan of split rims. Although, dont get me wrong, I do like them.

I like the flat dish of the borbets. BBS dont do that.

I've had a bit of a stir in emails from wheel-whores, not too much, but a few are though.

Btw, to people who would like these... send me an email!!!

I must say the Borbet "B" are my favourite wheel for the e30 there the closest thing to my favourite Alleycat wheels.

http://www.minispares-online.co.uk/?cat ... rod_id=704

Loved these back in my mini days but never owned a set only managed the superlights you carnt get ether for an e30 can you, so i would be interested in a set if it ever did happen.

Those alleycats are pretty smart!

I dont think borbet will ever bring back the B's :(

Theres a few similar wheels, but none with quite the borbet dish!

TBH, i'd be just as chuffed with BBS RS rim'ed up to 9"! ESM make some quality looking RS type reps in 9". Check them out. ESM 001 or 002 i think.

Since i saw this thread iv been trying to find a set of wheels that i like just as much as the Borbet B's and stumbled across these on e30tech the guy on forum said that they were CR 16x9. Could anybody shed any light on this as i would very much like some of these? by CR do they mean the CR-Kai stuff which i think has some relation to the WORK stuff.
