My mate wanted me to show him some half decent places to take some pics, and decided to take a few with my N95, quality aint too bad but wish i had taken my camera

found some more rust the other day in the front drivers inner arch hiding about the size of a £2 coin so its probably 5 times as big

excuse the taped up rear valance :o: at least its rust free

:D

its quick, its had stupid amounts of money spent on it upped boost etc, a grands worth of brakes, expensive exhaust, and suspension

although i would rather spend
£1000 on a 325i
£1700 on insurance for a year and the remaining on the 325i :D

Had a closer look at the roof and somehow ended up with a repaired roof

ok, a weld would have been better but this should slow the rust process down a bit, and cost nothing, allready had alpine white paint, primer, body filler and what not :)

looked like this

Image

in a moment of madness i pushed a screwdriver into it and smashed as much rust as i could out untill it was nice clean metal again, the hole was a lot smaller than i imagined, i though it would be quite big once i started to dig

cleaned some of the rust out

Image

from underneith, painted plenty of krust on both sides

Image

rubbed the top bit down to clean metal and painted that with krust

Image

next i filled it with filler, making sure there were no holes, probably used too much :o: (is the first time ive used filler)

Image

Rubbed the filler down when it was dry and gave two coats of primer, then 3 coats of alpine white II

Image

excuse the overspray :o:

cleaned the sunroof tray out too

if i did it again i would deffinitly shape the filler a bit better and use high build primer, or possibly get the welder out and do it properly :D

i will never be 100% happy with it but it certainly looks better and should stop the rust or slow it down at least, will be using filler for the rear valance too probably to blend the new metal in :D

might give it another coat of paint to try and blend it in better :)

Bit of advice fella, those stainless steel sunroof runner plates you were working around in the tray are only held in with gobbo/putty shite, literally pull them up and take them out. They also go back quite a bit into the tray too so you can inspect the panel properly. With these out the repair process will be alot easier and a better finish will be attained. Also i hate to break it but as you can see you had quite a bit of bubbling coming from under them so there is most likely more rust lurking beneath.

At last the rear valance gets finnished (ish)

Image

got this done tonight

Image

Image

The metal even has a grove in it where the valance groves, between the white and black bit, and the little lip on the bottom

there is still a gap underneith so it will get another plate in there, still needs grinding smooth, then it will get a light layer of filler and then seam sealer on the inside :)

Car is no longer a virgin to the welder winkeye

Image

Got more that i thought done tonight, Plan was only to get a light coat on but carried on and managed to keep my good cloths clean :chuckle:

paint

Image

Image

got carried away

Image

Almost finished, just needs the black bit painting and the small plate putting in the bootwell floor

Image
