The question you need to ask is can you really afford to run one properly? and a nail will bury you in your wallet

Personally I prefer the shorter wheel base, and in oem spec! But hey its your car!
And why not go for a 750?

Running costs are not a problem, had one of these before
, head gasket went on that and it cost over 1k to repair/fix it

I dont see the point in cars this size unless jeeves is up front driving it for you, dont get me wrong its a very nice car but you look a bit of a fool driving one and the ladys will think you have a small willy.
Plus to people in the know they will know its true value so it also makes you look a bit of a wanna be but each to there own.
Theres a reason these are so cheap!
I've been looking at E39's recently but even they seem a bit big problem is i carnt bring myself to buy an E36 as i've had them before and now there suffering from chavitus

Not really strictly on topic, but who are these traders who can't spell? It doesn't exactly give the right impression does it? I also hate it when modern cars are referred to as having 'coachwork' - that sort of sales lingo really puts me off.

I have driven one of these abroad... it almost got me in ALOT of trouble
It was a nice car to drive although (it doesnt really apply to this country) they dont like the heat. On a hot day (not difficult in the middle east) the electrics would pack up in alot of the bits!
I dont think i would buy one though with the amount it would cost to run + repair!

I had an e39 540i 6-speed manual and it was truly awesome, it beat everything in a straight line including cossies, scoobys and skylines! At 155mph on the limiter it was only at about 4250 rpm in top! Also its really civilised and comfy with next to no road noise at all (at 120 it feels like most cars at 80-90).
I would recommend one of these big time, that said I haven’t drove the 7 series. But no doubt they are heavier and not as aerodynamic. (I know not everyone is a speed freak)
I doubt the 750 would be much quicker than the 740.

My dream one would be a rare 750i sport SWB. Something about a V12 engine makes it extra special.

Give or take a couple of hundred rpm (I obviously wasn’t studying the dash at that speed)! Defiantly not over 4500 RPM!
Agreed the M5 is in another league again, but at 10k for a good one and astronomical running costs, they are out of my price range at the moment.

Poor bloke.
He must have been pissed that 3 reprobates in a pocket money car were keeping up with his £100k? chariot.
Edit: He was probably caressing gear changes...well...I wasn't.

Have to say, I'd go for the v8 - even a 728i will be juicy, and they're unlikely to have all the kit that makes big barges like this worth having. V12 is probably overkill though.
