Yes,and the galvanised 318iS uses the same 'box.
320i uses the same insides in a slightly different case. 'Box is the Getrang 240.

316i/318i fine. No idea about 318is. Doubt the 316 will work. 320i wont fit.

318iS (M42 engine) gearbox is different to the 316i/318i gearbox. It will bolt up to the M40 engine, but you might need the 318iS prop (I dont know if there are differences between the 318i and iS props).

^ Slightly different ratios AFAIK, but also a slightly different shaped bell housing compared to the M40 box.

I will try and get a photo next week, when Ive got both to compare.

I've read that is true if connected up to a 325i :)

I also have a unknown Bmw gearbox. it was removed from a kreg 318 touring.
Was mated to an open 4,10 diff, which made the engine very buzzy and wanting another gear
even when in 5TH. Never did find out what model it came from :?

Ratios are very similar.325i uses Getrang 260,which is slightly larger in every respect.(bigger bearings, bigger case)This is why the 325 has a slightly shorter propshaft.
I have used an ex 320i 'box/clutch for more than three years now with my 2.7 with no issues at all.
Remember that the 325i is improved over 320/323 in lots of detail chassis items, rear brakes, front struts are other bits that spring to mind.
