ebay the car sounds like a plan, with a cunning link in the BMW 5 forum. I've neither the time nor the will to start stripping bits off it, and need rid pretty soon.

Id add more to the advert as from the pics it looks pretty good and straight,
Big it up a bit, ie m-tech bumpers very good condition leather no rips (unless it has) just needs conditioning, check the diff? rust? obc, all electrics work, condition of the panels, etc..
carefully worded you could sell it for more than you think, but dont bullshit too much!
Im one of your watchers btw

Another update.
Well went down to the yard where I removed the engine this morning to clear up my mess. Got the engine onto a trailer and towed it home with the volvo. Incidently I discovered today that the volvo has aircon!! lol. I didn't know that. Shows how often I drive it eh? We've only had it about 6 months..
Left the E34 looking like this. It's been violated!

Went to buy an engine stand. Took the gearbox off, Couldn't work out how the hell to get it on the stand. (Daf they didn't have any threaded bar) So I just thought I'd stick it in the garage for now as I'm really running out of energy!
We've been having a kids playground installed and the guy doing it had a rather large digger with him today. Perfect timing!
Now this is an angine crane!

And managed to get it into the garage.

Happy days. Back to work tomorrow so there won't be much happening for another week.

3 10mm bolts hold the torque converter on from the engine side of the flywheel, 17mm spanner and something to stop the engine turning. Be careful, it will have a lot of oil inside

Reminded me of my eta engine collection...pulled the short motor out of a 525e in the back garden of an Indian lad's home in Leeds.DanThe wrote:3 10mm bolts hold the torque converter on from the engine side of the flywheel, 17mm spanner and something to stop the engine turning. The engine was carsick in the back of my old 316i touring, took me hours to clean the gear oil of the carpet!

Cheers Dan. After the weekend's exertions I'm gonna leave it a few days before I'll be looking at it again. I'm kinda wiped out and back to the 12 hours a day day job.DanThe wrote:3 10mm bolts hold the torque converter on from the engine side of the flywheel, 17mm spanner and something to stop the engine turning. I think I know how to do it now. Just gotta figure a way of getting it off the ground with some sort of recepticle underneath to catch the oil.

Just bought another donor car.
I just can't help myself.
It's an E30 though, 325i 2 door with all the suspension bits I need, a nice zaust, and a whole host of spares for el Chavo. Bonus! It's an early one so it's got the right radiator I need....
Better get that trailer out again....
So that's it decided. The M30 is heading for my lovely 318 shell.

I wouldn't really recommend it. There's quite a lot of rust, including patches on the roof aswell as a dent. The engine seems good though. I'll take some pics when I get it home.zaust wrote:What's the 2 door shell likeIs it salvageable ??? Want to build another tech 1

Speak to Ziggy. I think he's using an M10 box iirc. Generally though use the flywheel and clutch to match the gearbox.willnz wrote:Sorry to butt in, but just read the thread as I am about to start an M30 conversion into a 318 cab and couldnt help noticing the remark about using the M10 box.ImysE30 wrote:
You will need custom engine mounts (beefy on here for around £100) and a custom prop (unless you decided to use a M10 box/prop)![]()
What flywheel do you use? Reason being is that M30 manual boxes are rather difficult to come by and M10 are easy in my neck of the woods. I was going to pirate the box out of my e28 M535 until I could source an M30 box but this could save me a lot of work..

Picked up a highback interior today. Not A1 by any stretch but local and cheap. Should be OK to get me goin.
Also got a pair of front wings.
Garage is gettin quite full....
I'll try get some more pics up when the second donor gets here on Monday..

Yep 4 lol!! Sold the E34 and it's going tomorrow.
Also managed to remove the monstrosity of a fly wheel and get the engine onto the stand this morning.
I've now got to go try to remove some wiring for Dan before the E34 gets picked up tomorrow, and then pick up the E30 donor this evening. I'm also going to check out a friend's barn cos my garage ain't big enough any more!

Been busy again..
Had a good old clear up and tried to get a bit organised today. Engine onto a stand and moved right next to my workbench, which had to be cleared of beer bottles, empty glasses, fag buts, rubbish etc etc....

First proper look at the fanimould..

Been doin a bit of cleaning in the bay..

And sprayed bottom half of the valance....

And picked up the second donor off Oly from the zone... Big up Oly! Ur a legend mate!

Think this will do for now...

Gonna sit here for about another 3 weeks until I'm ready to start dismantling. Got this space for a lot longer.

Made a start on work to the motor, breaking myself in with the spraybar mod...

Oh yeah and major stroke of luck from the day?
The car from Oly has the same cloth interior as the highback interior I picked up the other day, and the door cards appear in far better condition too. Tidy!

Nice work!
You wont need to touch those manifolds, the flanges are the same as mine and they will 'just' clear the column,i think ive got a pic somewhere to show the clearance but you will be fine
Unless your fitting an E36 rack

Lee, What did you do with your rocker cover and inlet? Are they sprayed?
I also managed to salvage the power steering pump and throttle cable from the E34 after re-reading Ziggy's sticky.

Just remembered,if i was going to do the m30 swap again i would knock back the fire wall a touch to make way for this part of the manifold,or cut a bit of the heatshield away as mine touches here and makes getting the downpipes on a bit of a struggle along with the bolts

I sprayed the inlet etc using hammerite,i used hammered black on the inlet & rocker, gloss black on the block (was gonna do it silver) and silver for the TB,thermo housing, mounts, oil filter housing etc.
OI no copying!
