misbehaving wipers, please help.

afternoon zoners i'm hoping one of you can help, i have a 318is e36 and the wipers packed up the other day so i checked the motor and that was ok, checked the stalk by unpluging it and bridging it and found a relay clicking away so i went to BMW and paid £51.51 for a new one, plugged that in and now if i pull the stalk to wash the screen it washes and wipes but instead of wiping 3 times and stopping it will wipe about 10 times then stop, but that's it no more wipers, you have to turn the ignition off then on again for them to work or not work as it were. also none of the other modes work intermitant, constant or fast, it's all just 10 wipes and that's it no more goes until i turn the ignition off and on again.

please help me as it's really stressing me out.

Have you taken the motor apart and cleaned it? They get full of grease causing this sort of problem. Sounds as though you may have filthy contacts. There is a guide in the wiki I think, but if not it's really easy to do. Just take the motor off, remove the plastic cover and make sure the surfaces are all clean inside.

tried that no luck, maybe i'll try changing the stalk
