coilover advice.

im looking for a set of coilovers for my m30 cab. i was looking at gaz gold but the guys at corby motorsport said it will be too harsh for a road car. is anyone using the gold kit on a road car? any feedback on them? also what would you suggest other than gaz? are the spax coilover kit any good?
it doesnt have to be coilovers but i want a decent drop and would be happy with a 60/40 drop. but need something to take into account the extra weight of the engine.

H&R Cup kit with 60/40 drop is good also with M30. If you go for coilovers, the springs will be harder and the rider harsher..

KW do a coilover kit for the E30 I have heard and they're supposed to be pretty good. I've heard people claim that when setup correctly, coilovers can offer a nicer ride than a lot of standard lowering spring set ups...
I'm sure you can buy progressively wound coil over spring's. This should make the ride less harsh.

I run an H&R Coily kit on the road, daily - love it!!!!!!!! A bit more harsh than some cars, but i quite like it!! Lol!!!
H&R cup kit is a very good compromise though - i would deffo go with that if you're not 100% on coily's!! Save yourself a bit of cash too!!!

The same can be said for the damping characteristics on most of the decent (not cheap ebay tat) coilovers. thye should have bump and rebound adjust,usually split somewhere about 60/40 ish or there about's

Coilovers have far more adjustment potential than an "off the shelf" shocks and lowering springs setup .

Yes that's of course true. Coil-overs are more or less "race" - style, which means that they tend to be quite hard and that's something the topic starter wanted to avoid.
Anyhow, you can change the springs and revalve dampers, but it'll cost quite a lot / requires work to test different spring rates so it'll be easier and much cheaper to buy "ready package".
I built coil-overs to my E30 V8 cabrio by myself and i'm really happy with them so don't get me wrong, i like coil-overs but for newbies ready-made, quality sets are the way to go.

I will have finalised a new coilover from GAZ this week if you can wait 5 days, it is top adjustable and developed with a road car with some trackuse in mind.
Spring rates to suit you and the cars use
The ride will be more friendly than the Golds on the road but still upto some trackday fun
I will have exclusive supply of these, and will be the official BMW dealer for GAZ including the golds.
