I have a problem...

At work resides a super example of a 1989 735i 4speed auto done 68k. It's had one owner from new and a full BMW service history. All books but only one key.

Lachs Silver with Blue leather.

I have been offered the opportunity to own this car for £500 and therein lies my dilemma!

I am leaving home to go to university in six weeks time and will be taking my 325 Sport with me when I go. Until then I have nowhere to put this car. I have nowhere to put it when I go to uni either. I have thought about fragging the car (the engine's probably worth close to £300 alone with the mileage and history). Might the engine be any good to a zoner?

What are people's thoughts? What do you think that car might do on flea-Bay? I could get aweay with parking the car outside my house for not much longer than a week or two before people started to complain so I could auction it...

Engine would be perfect for a M30 swap especially with the low mileage winkeye

I'm pretty sure if you fragged it you would get close to £500 if not more. Selling as a whole car you'd get more than £500 too.

Engine belongs in a E30 though, if only i wasn't eyeing up other prospects :(

Haven't got nearly enough time or space for a swap into mine :( which is the first thing I thought of...

Might just chuck £500 at it and see what happens winkeye

Had my fingers burnt with that when I bought the Sport...don't think I'd ever buy a car without a test ever again!

I suppose for fragging the car it wouldn't matter but I haven't the time or space to break it up :(

Sounds too good to break with that history/milage but sadly the value of an E32 is not great these days. If it were manual it might be different, but I'm sure you would easily double your money on ebay if the ad was written correctly....

Like I said, I'd have to give £500 for the whole car but actually I have absolutely nowhere to remove the engine (or anything else really for that matter)...They certainly wouldn't let me do it at work, which would be the most obvious choice and my drive/garage/road outside my house is filled with cars and bikes already! :x

Don't know what your thoughts are???? If you can come up with an idea to get the engine out then let me know.

It sounds worth a punt - there's every chance it won't need anything for an MoT. If it fails, you still ought to get most of your money back from someone who wants the motor and has the time to frag the rest. If it passes, sell it at a profit. I absolutely would not put this type of car on ebay though - there are people around who will pay top dollar for almost anything if it has the holy grail of 'one-owner, low miles, fsh', but on ebay, everyone wants a bargain. In this scenario, a few ads in the back of some classic mags and on similar websites should see a sound return, provided the car is otherwise condition 1 - say £1750ono and see what happens. Having said that, I've just spotted you'd need to get rid quickly as you're going away - I don't think any 7-series will ever sell quickly unless it is beer money, so you need to take this into account, maybe let someone who isn't in a hurry take the risk.

If the car is generally tatty though, just leave it alone.

The leather's a little worn as you'd expect. I wouldn't say it's in A1 condition. With a little tlc the paintwork would be excellent but I think you're right about it not being one for a 'quick sale'

I'm going to pass on it. No space to frag it and no time to get it properly prepared to get the best money for it.

:( shame really but I know I'm not in a position to make the most of it...

Probably not, I missed that part!
