I have a friend with one - she loves it. It's comfy, quick and capable through the twisties.
I think they look
myself, not a patch on the E30 though!
I think they look

Now driving an E46 320D touring
Can be lots and lots and lots of trouble though.
Rotten front arches
Boot floor cracking around diff mount (pass. side)
Faulty engine and automatic box wiring looms lead to some real problems
Broken door handles
Usual E46 bollocks - front wishbones, seat sensors for airbag, radiators etc.
You might be lucky but 323Ci and 328Ci's are a bit too old now. Look for a higher mileage 325Ci instead with the M54. Not that much better, just newer!

Ive got a Coupe ,performance wise its quick enough without being a double L (Licence Looser!)Not M3 but then its an affordable good looking fast road car.Economical its not but lots of fun.As regards to not being as good as an E30,its a different animal, more refined.Ive got a 1989 320 Cab and a 1984 low mileage 320 2 door as well.If you can get one at the right price you will love it.
