*Update*
The M30 is now blowing through a 50mm scorpion M3 exhaust with STW tailpipes!
Picked it up from tomson on friday night and fitted it yesterday afternoon,i didnt go with the fitting an m3 flange to the M30 downpipes i cut the flange off the exhaust opened it up to 50mm then sleeve fitted it onto the downpies,
Now it sounds like it goes
the exhaust is in very good condition and isnt that loud
On tickover its no louder than the standard system i had on but when you give it the beans oh my god the noise is something else!
What ive found is it hasnt really gained any more power over the 46mm system so id say the 325i system is suitable for the M30 swap
Anyway here's the pics, sorry about the quality there off my phone but you get the idea.

Where ive joined it onto the downpipes (if you can see it
)

Bit of a comedy caper when i collected it from tomson,it was in one piece and it wouldnt split after half an hour in the rain bashing it etc it wasnt having any of it so it got fed through the ski hatch twisting and turning accross the flat passenger seat down into the footwell,if it would of been 6 inches longer it wouldnt of fit!
Looking at this pic you will see what i mean

Oh and the M30 propeled me down to bristol very nicely

E34 washer bottle,it fits perfect next to the air box

Drift boy,ive embarressed quite a few especially a porsche boxter driver showing off with his dolly bird next to him,and my mate with his subaru cant work out why he cant shake me off.
the saxo/106/focus brigade are the funniest though,i let them scream off the lights then just belt past them at full chat

This is how much of the down pipes i kept

Where on this pic ^ is yours broke? e34's are on the left, you could get away with less as long as its past the bends
My downpipes are even shorter now as i wanted as much of the m3 exhaust as possible

Lee those bits on mine are OK. Didn't realise you had cut them down as much. I was wondering how the huge centre box was going to fit under my car! lol.
There is a lamda sensor in my exhaust though. What do I do with that?

No idea on the sensor though,i think you will have to leave it in (dont quote me on that though)

I just love it when you can improve your car only by bolting on OEM bits...
Everything is OEM on your car except the exhaust, and then you could improve it greatly, that is just awesome...
Small question again, so you confirm you use the original E30 325i transmisson shaft ? You only use the bit that was on the 325 gearbox and put it on the E34 gearbox is that right ?
Confirm ZERO modification of the length etc ???
How is it holding so far with the increase power and torque ???
I believe it is OK, I have 210HP on my B3 and never had the slightest worry about that bit...
If that worked that way that is just another great discover.
I love you contribution so far that clarifies two grey areas for the M30 swap...
Cheers / Pierre

I used a standard m20 325i manual propshaft, took the gearbox flange off a m20 325i gearbox and fitted it to the m30 gearbox.pegase747 wrote:Small question again, so you confirm you use the original E30 325i transmisson shaft ? No modifcations to the prop was needed it was perfect length only needed adjusting at the sleeve about 5mm (if that)
When i fitted the exhaust i checked the prop and rubbers and everything was good,no cracks,splits,etc...

You'll have to take the plastic h/l cover off, and then there's a small plastic tab on the bottom of the bottle, cut it off carefully and it will fit mate.

Thanks guys for all those infos.
I love the fact that the 325i propshaft can be fitted without any mods if the engine is in position 3.
i really want to do a M30 swap for my touring, but right now I am still sorting out the chassis. Once this will be finished, I will chase up a E34 or E32 donor...
Can't wait to do that.
Cheers / Pierre
