And by long term project i mean -as long as it takes years doing a bit at a time ie dip cut in new metal where needed zinc prime re-underseal and so on...

Balls of steel to take that on, if you can do it then go for it, personally if it was me with my very limited mechanical experience i'd steer clear of that......
Looks like its had a new/secondhand rear nearside quarter and rear panel already.
Hope you have somewhere to store this, many hours of enjoyment working on that, or hair pulling out and shouting at it alot

Believe it or not its nearly all surface rust, arches and jacking points solid, the welds along the grafted pannels are surface rust as well, the shell has been sitting for 6 months...
Its a genuine shell, it has the full kit, surely its worth saving?
...oh and it was formerly the shell of a schnitzer s3 2.5 lotec turbo, got stacked on a track day some while ago and jigged/repaired with the pannels from another stacked m3
yeh hector's sound sick bmxer too heard he's in oz now split with his girl and fuct off.fair play.i proposed to my fiance last year on the beach in lowestoft on the way my e30 overheated lol pissing thing was a good day tho!there was a good scrappie off the a146 headin back norwich way find-a-part i think had a few e30's there might be worth a look!!
mate... its going to need some serious money chucked at it... for what we discussed earlier surely it would be easyer to find a better one with your budget? it needs dipping alright!!
dipping plus any rqd welding, paint, plus initial outlay still equals less than the cost of buying a shell thats going to be of the same condition, a bit of a catch 22...
No reason not to get this and sit on it slowly saving the pennies for each major stage, there is another shell up for 2 bags on p/h's and thats needing a spray and a quality quarter repair- thats if the chassis isn't severly kinked.
Maybe i am dreaming but i think 20 years down the line it will have been worth saving this, either way there is still time to talk me out of it lol!

if you know you can see the project through, got the space, and more importantly the time and the effort to go for it, do it mate. I'm all for saving rarer models of the e30, most frag thats crawling about these days is just that.
Save it but make sure the shell isnt twisted like a banana split. This will cost you mega bucks no doubt about it.. also remembering annoying things like wheel arch liners are NLA from BMW.. I would not want to be trying to restore something that is as bad as that I have just started on my shell now and while relatively rust free, even being a sport, there is a long long road a head of me.
How the hell do people manage to find cars like that im forever looking Fair play mate its more than worth doing, just take your time and spend money wisely and you should make a tidy profit
not in it for any profit, i want an m3 shell i can take back to zero and start again with. this shell should last me the rest of my driving life perhaps selling up when im too old to drive would be an option given the value of a shell 50 years from now. this is all idle speculation i know... the car was Jigged when the panels were cut in and the sills are straight. the steal thickness warrants dipping to remove the surface rubbish -once treated and primed i think its a good platform to build my new car from. i must admit though that it is daunting im the extreme
i think you deserve a medal mate! sick of people breaking m3's for money even in this state they to me are a piece of history that should be cherished and not destroyed for personal finacial gain! i know its allways gonna happen but to me an m3 that is repairable should be repaired and one that is not should feed the ones that need help! i will watch the resto thread and look forward to seeing this ///M3 come back to life and maybe round the ring!
320ise I think this takes the point to the extreme. This isn't a breaker, its a wreck.
This is more of a project than I was thinking of with the new shell. To strip and get the shell back to a 'repairable' state to start from will take an absolute age.
As said before you could get an ok one and do the same.....there is a large part of the car that wont need to be stripped and would take much less time and money to mint.
to be fair, it doesnt look that far gone, i bet there are cars with a lot more rot than that bunged full of fibreglass and driving around.
it''s obviously going to look a mess as it's been parked under trees for a while. get it draged out and scrubbed up and i bet it doesnt look anywhere near as bad.
a major project for sure, but i for one would love the chance to build my own m3 up from scratch.

My bodywork job cost me 6 bags. thing is its been sat on concrete,what a potential life saver.
Thing is its an M3 and someone will thankyou for saving it. Go for it, if you pull it off at the end you'll be a hero. Break it down into little stages, ie strip,bodywork etc. I use a little black book i write everything i want to buy, next jobs to do. Saves ALOT of mental dramas in your head trust me!
