I'll try and pop down to give you a hand - I'll keep well out of the way of the wiring though winkeye I have a habbit of running an angle grinder through stuff :D

pulling the loom out in one piece is a doddle. it'll all become clear once you start.
don't unplug anything from the engine unless you have to.
use masking tape to identify any wires you need to remove. even if it's just a A-A, B-B, C-C etc to keep pairings correct.
oh, keep a digital camera handy and take lots of pics of how stuff is fitted, it'll save headscratching later if you forget :D

I had a glance over the wiring and it doesn't look to tricky to remove. It certainly looks a bit clearer with the ECU mounted in the engine bay.

I will be taking my camera, some tape, money bags for fixings, a marker pen/biro and a couple of boxes for the big bits.

Unless it has rust issue's i agree with magpie and let the chav live!

M30's are loud and lairy and it would suit it perfectly.

p.s. when you pull the M30 out the weekend pull the slam panel off it makes life a lot easier when draging the engine out, hopefully by sunday night we will see this

I have the use of a very nice set up for removing the engine. Full hydraulic ramp with a whopping crane at the front end. I doubt I'll need to remove the slam panel but I'll bear that in mind if it gets awkward.

The Chav may live. But at this stage I'm still undecided which shell the 3.5 is heading for! Damn my indecisiveness!!

First thing's first though, the engine has to be removed and I still need to find the readies for the gearbox someone is holding onto for me... 8O

 Errmmmm... Sorry about that Daf! :o: Very dodgy switch to work the winch...:snigger:

Anyhoo, wee update...

Image

First chance I've ever had to work with some decent ramps. What a difference it makes. :)

Up she goes...

Image

Piece of cake to get the exhaust off, disconnect power steering pump, gearbox mounts and disconnect the prop shaft...

Image

Then Daf showed up and I doubt very much that I would have got these next snaps without his assistance not having attempted to remove an engine before. Bit of jiggling, head scratching and a few more fags and we got there!!

Image

At this point we debated getting the grinders out, but it wasn't necessary in the end because of the height of the winch, and not giving a fook about the slam panel. :chuckle:

Strawberry blond?? 8O

At last it hits the ground. Phew!

And one 535i never to run on it's own steam again! :thumb:

Cheers for the hand Daf!

Next it's onto a stand and I'll give it a good tidy, replace those gaskets etc...

You're welcome mate - didn't take too long :D. That jolt made my strawberry blondness stand on end! :clin: Shoehorning it in to the E30 will be the challange - seeing as you have acess to those ramps you may be better off going in from underneath....

This is what I have a couple of:

http://www.machinemart.co.uk/shop/produ ... gine-stand

You would be welcome to borrow one but they are both in use at the moment  great investment though and make life a lot easier :D

There's one in Chester with a big carpark next to it. Buy yourself a metre of threaded bar and chop it into 4 bits to fit it to the stand with. :D

It won't be long before I scrap the car now.

What bit's should I keep hold of apart from obviously the engine, ecu, hoses, rad...

prop shaft?

The back of the exhaust is clearly going to be of little use, but should I keep front section?

Anything else?

Keep the seats and mount them to some metal framework - they would make excellent deck chairs/office chairs winkeye

Did you check the diff to see if its a slipper? also do the window wipers work without a clonking noise,if good remove the motor & mechanisem (spelling) and ebay it,mine went for £48 +post,if the exhaust is good ebay that too (you will only need the downpipes)

Why dont you ebay the whole car as it stands.
