Nice work mate. Mine didn't have aircon so not sure. Would it be possible to remove the pump and level the rest in place. Save you pi$$ing about with it. I only had 1 ecu as it was a manul but mine was on the bottom and had a black multi plug going into it from the engine loom. Hope this helps lee. Probs not though sorry mate. Your car is 97? It will have ews won't it mate but that's just a little black box next to the ecu isn't it. Nice work mate. Motor will be out tomorrow yeh?

I don't think there is much gas in there anyway mate.

Had a right comic moment when I packed up my tools earlier. Went to close the garage door only to discover I'd moved the car too far up the drive, so the door was coming down onto the bonnet, so dropped it off the axle stands, but still was in the way, went to roll it backwards only to remember i'd left it in park and had disconnected the gear shifter, so had to reach underneath and move the shifter bracket with my hand to find neutral.

OK there was more gas in the air con system than I thought Shit myself when I loosened one of the pipes and it made a rapid bid for freedom.

This is the engine bay at present, all the wiring loom disconnected from the car and the heating pipes disconnected and air con.


Here is the ECU and the EWS witchcraft carefully removed

I hope this is the correct ECU I've removed as the other one is a barsteward to get to

Need to have a look at the clutch when I get that off and assess if a replacement is likely to be needed any time soon as I don't plan on doing this again for some time.

All I've left to do to get this engine out now is undo the prop, so may have it on the ground one night this week (weather permitting)

I've got some other alloys to fit to it to keep the shell rolling, so you can have the stunning x-spokes back and the battery.

I think all i'm going to bother raping from it is the leather and climate panel, OBC and steering rack and weigh in the remains

I thought about raping mine but couldn't be arsed with loads of odds and ends in the already crouded garage.
Plus every thing I look at for e36s on eBay arnt making any money so it ends up being more hassle than it's worth IMO. I kept the rack a lights I think. Defos trying to get mine ready for pod so might see you there mate

tried getting the lump and box out last night, but spent too much time faffing about with other things and ran out of light, didn't seem to want to come out and had to abandon and jack it back up to re-check what I had not undone.

Weather is dry so I'll have another go tonight. Got sump gasket, cam cover gasket and some other bits & bobs to pick up from the stealers tomorrow morning

had another bash tonight and still haven't got it out, so have started dismantling the front end, which takes forever finding all the stupid bolts hidden everywhere. Ran out of light in the end, so moved in the garage and took the clutch & flywheel off the M50.

Good job this has happened in a way as 3 of the allen bolts that hold the clutch on were only finger tight nearly all of them had the edges chewed off them too for some reason, can't see anything inside the bell housing that has been catching. My despair at the fool I bought that package from continues to grow. I expected to find the bolts holding the flywheel on hanging off ready to remove my legs, but fortunately they were tight and needed the assistance of the air gun to remove as a ratchet was just turning the lump over under compression.

Clutch looks suprisingly good so there's £100 saved, proper Sachs one too.

Some possible reinforcements coming over on Sunday to help so it may progress this weekend.

Good news mate. I cut the front end off the 36 with a grinder. Couldnt be arsed with the undoing crack, Cut it mate. I had a nightmare getting the thing out off mine too mate. Engine mounts wouldnt let go. I had everything undone and the car was jacked up on the engine crane. Just had too use brout force and ignorance. Have you sent out for back up. Will be mot ready monday?

got some deals going on which mean folk need to visit, so they'll get roped in.

I had it on the hoist and was jumping on the driver side front turret to try and get the mounts to give, the passenger side one is co-operating but the driver side isn't. Suspect the rear branch is catching on the steering column, so that'll be getting the good news.

The grinder is at the ready for the front panel though, mwahahahahahah

It's mint working on something that is getting scrapped once your finished. Much better than sweating when putting it all back together. Re tapped the hoe that had the snapped cross member bolt in today so am chuffed that job is done. Going to fill her with fuel tomorrow and see if she starts.

I had a bit of a soft spot for the dirty six when I first started taking it to bits, but it is pissing me off now so whatever needs doing to liberate the engine & box will do for me now

In the end I jacked the hole car car up so it was only held by the engine mount. Then one of my mates climbed up on the wings of the car and jumped up and down. This got it going. My e36 had been stud for 18months and everything was held together with rust.

Yes, plenty of progress on the fragfest of the E36.

Everett came over and got well & truly stuck in with the vandalism, I was more tea bitch and got a wee BBQ on the go later on.

The lump came out after a brief dispute, the offside engine mount was just stuck to the rubber and needed a bit of jack action and some shock treatment.



A proper comedy moment after draining the tank, which was about 1/4 full. Gave the fuel pump some direct feed and glugged the contents into a 20ltr watering can. Got about 15 ltrs out and tipped that in the soarer, went back and got another one about 10 ltrs worth. Then forgot about it. We then needed to push the car up the drive so we could get all the doors open to rape the interior, pushed the car which then went over the watering can still stuck near the transmission tunnel £15 of fuel over the driveway, man it stunk and the BBQ was about 10 feet away

Anwyay, muchos petrol fumes later... a true spesh at work

Anyway, discovered I have a horrid dual mass flywheel which was on the M50 and iS gearbox setup, so need a decent M20 flywheel & clutch if anyone has anything decent, get in touch. Need to get a spigott bearing instead of trying to butcher the one out of the M50.

Sold the exhaust system, going to get the leathers and computers etc on the bay and E36coupe.com. Sorted a deal on the M50 and loom. Will get rid of the shell hopefully in the next week and then crack on getting the M52 ready to go in.
