House dimmer wires in to control the speed .
What i used on my pitbike as a regulator for a while

Fully agree about the single, fixed, intermittent wipe speed. It drives me mad as well. The (big) Rover 800 series had a very effective one - 3 speeds plus variable intermittent controlled (if I remember correctly) by a 4 position, twist-able end to the wiper stalk which increased or decreased the speed. It's been some years since I had one, so the above is a bit sketchy, but the end result was that you could keep the screen clear regardless of faint, light or heavy drizzle as well as having quite effective speed wipers for more persistent rain. It maybe a stupid idea, but I wonder whether it would be possible to do a mod using one of those units - there must be few scrapped 800 series Rovers lying around.

My E34 has this option - same as on similar age VAG stuff. Controlled by switching the intermittent wipe on and off then on again & it 'remembers' the interval you set. Can't see why it couldn't be made to work with the E30 stalk...

I'm surprised the E36 doesn't have the same system!
E30 in need of wiring loom smoke since April '11...
