I did some calcs based on my E30 having 195x60x14 as standard (according to original handbook) and the closest in diameter (to maintain speedo accuracy) was 205x45x16. So I went with Toyos in this size. There is some conjecture as to the correct size - asked this same question myself a few months back!

According to the BMW E30 - 3 Series Restoration Bible (Everett) the tyre sizes fitted to these rims varied according to the car.

Eg, the H23 and the 323i based H26 had the 7.5" by 16" Hartge rims fitted on all corners and these were shod with 195/50/16 up front and 225/45/16 on the rears.

The 325i based H26 had 195/50 front and rear.

The H27 had 205/50 front and rear.
