ford gaskets are far easyer to doo than bmw ones, did a zetec in 3 hours the other weekend.
that said i was reading fast ford while at in the bmw waiting for my mrs to get out of the hospital and couldnt help comparing the sierra interior with my touring.

I would gladly have a black 3 door Cosworth. Around 250-275 bhp, a set of Billies and some decent modern rubber on the original wheels plus some decent pads. They've just about gone through the Council phase now and the meatheads have moved on to Scubarus. The Sierra was always a decent handling car and the Cosworth is okay if treated with a bit of respect.
The other advantage of the Cosworth was that they were built by Ford Germany and unlike the regular Dagenham crap, they are remarkably resistant to rot - unlike the M3 which rots like any other E30/Fiat/bean can. The YB is a strong engine and so is the BW T5 box.
They are old and crude, but the three door is an absolute blue chip classic. The Sapphire just isn't. It's a Ford E36 M3 Minicab.

I often think the lack of thefts in the 80s of M3s was due to 2 things.
The Lefthanddriveness
and
The fact BMW fitted locks that were a damn site better than the stuff Ford fitted.
Though obviously both are sadly lacking by modern standards.

The "cozzeh" just had greater desirability back in the day.
The locks etc were irrelevant as once the insurance industry realised that implementing mandatory security requirements would help to reduce opportunist thieves, the number of thefts still did not drop massively.
There was even a point in time when insurance ratings were lower for cossies parked in the street rather than garaged examples as the garage just gave a shield to the thieves to work on when bypassing security.
A guy who used to live around the corner (back in the late 80's/early 90's) had his stolen several times, once when locked & alramed in his garage and with 2 other cars parked on the drive (which had to be broken into and moved). Or it was a case of your house got burgled or you answered the door and someone pointed a shooter at your face and asked for your car keys.
The cossie had more of a "hero chariot" aura about it, rather than the M3 which didn't excite the villans and drug dealers of their time

Hey Rich, I figure if you have all that weight up front, it kinda ballanced out by a humungous amount of torque getting to the rear wheels, easily overcoming any understeerRich_W wrote:rado-steve wrote:At least this one has a proper engine ;)

£30,000 for a classic m3 with a limited number made in production sounds good.
a friend has one and will only part if some one had OFFERED £40,000
why do people on here cry about prices?
they all know they will never be able to buy one.
by the time they have saved up they will be going for £50,000
so stop going on about the price!
cry after you've spend the £30,000
THATS WHAT I DO

There is not a E30 M3 on this planet worth £40K+. if someone offered me anything over £20K for mine I'd bite their hand off. But I don't think they would be getting a good deal. A fool and their money...
They're Ok, good even, but not THAT good! These aren't tiny production number Ferraris remember!

Wrong. A European collector would gladly pay 50'000 Euros (About £45'000) for a perfect low mileage Sport Evo. In fact, they have being doing just that. Right now the smart money is going into mid range collector cars such as this. At an H&H Ayction last month someone paid £50'000 for a nice but unexceptional 1972 911S 2.4. It wasn't that long ago that 50 grand bought a 2.7RS M472 Touring - they're £130'000+ now or over twice the price of a 2.4S. They certainly aren't twice as good, but they are a rare and desirable collectors car. Owners and buyers don't give a toss what you or I think, they just pay the money. I paid £12'000 for my Sport Evo (a proper unmolested minter with correct spec and matching numbers) and came out of it £5000 up. Doesn't mean to say I'd pay £17'000 for one now!Rich_W wrote:There is not a E30 M3 on this planet worth £40K+.
Be prepared to pay £25'000 for a mint RS1600 Escort, regardless of whether you think it's worth it or not.
