what on earth's the point of that? serious work for little return.

what's wrong with a late e30 m3 engine, it's a similar spec? my friend has an integra R which is a good engine - but it's not exactly torquey.

Of all the engines to choose from that would be a silly one i'd say as it is expensive and also they rev to 9000 rpm. No e30 tacho has that.

For the money you would spend im sure you could fit a built E30 m3 motor and be just as fast.

The problem is lack of low end in the honda motor

A M50 converted E30 would own it in general driving and probably from start as well
With great challenges comes great engineering.

I will put a s2000 engine in a spitfire one day (or is that not something I should be admitting round here?!) - it's perfect for a li'l car that weighs nothing... e30s however, need more cylinders & cubes! :burn:

a SPITFIRE?!!!

my mate has a frogeye sprite which is ok, but that's about where i draw the line on british 'sports' cars!

haven't you got a capri v6 too ziggy - or am i getting confused?

Guilty as charged!! Got a 2.8i, but that's hopefully gonna be moving on in the near future...

I don't have a spit at the mo, but I loved my old one, it just needed a bit more power! Oh, & a bit more metal rather than rust underneath, but that's another story... Gotta be done, I'm afraid
the inspiration: http://britishv8.org/swaps/joesspit.htm but mine'll be a road car...

Got an MGTB in the garage too; now *that's* a project

hmm well each to their own!

no to be honest that sprite is the most fun car for country roads i've ever driven, weighs nothing and really quick steering.

why are you selling the capri? they're cool! on the next months cover of practical performance car there's a blue capri with the cosworth 24v v6 from a granada in it, i had a ride and it is not a slow car!

do that to yours, this guy only paid Ԛ£300 for the engine!

They're very cool mate, & I will be having another one. I just don't have the time to spend on this one at the mo & it needs too much doing. It ain't slow as it is, with the 2.8 lump & the axle off a 2.0... I should have kept my mint 2.0 tho & got a big carb etc on it, but I just couldn't resist the V6 :?

How can you like a frogeye sprite & not a spit?! They're all rusty old peices of cr@p, but you can't touch em for a b-road blast on a summers day... You should hear a 1500 with a twin stainless system that comes out right behind you!!

I thought about the S2000 engine, the S2000 weighs 1275kg and it still manages to go ok. My 1985 323i is listed as 1090kg, probably closer to 1200kg with air conditioning and sunroof, so it is lighter. The reason I would want it is the 9000rpm redline and nice sound, I love engines that rev. Sure it doesn't have the low down torque but that's what the gearbox is for, to keep it in the power. I like using the gears and driving to keep it in the power, it makes it more fun for me.

The reason I haven't gone any further with this idea is because I was quoted AUD$8000 for an engine and gearbox and I was told that they can wear out the cylinder liners, especially with motorsport use, and they cost a lot to repair. It is still cheaper than the AUD$15000 I was told it costs for an E30 M3 engine.
