where are the nice standard cars?

What is standard, a Hartge fettled E30 isn't standard, neither was it BMW approved, same goes for Alpina, Schnitzer etc, although Alpina is obviously BMW approved, the point is they all thought they could improve on the standard model, which they did. I don't see a problem with modified examples, so long as the mods have been done to a high standard and used good quality components, it certainly wouldn't put me off, you could always put standard items back on the car and sell the other bits.

My touring is standard and more so now it sits on a very nice set of 15's...
And my sport is 99% original, I still have the original 15's to go on it stored safely in my shed![]()

I plan to restore my Tech 1 to factory spec, then improve the handling based on the experience I have from the race cars.
ie suspension, tyres, bushes, geo etc
I'll probably add front and rear strut braces for a little bit of stiffness too
All can easily be removed and put back to factory in the future
Is that a no no

I have a lovely standard 320i auto moredoor in red. It has some sprayed 15" BBS on it, but I have the 14" BBS wheels to put back on soon. Just removed my Tech1 spoiler, put my SE wheel back on and now its all mint ready for a friend to use for a while. Only problem is badly gone scuttle rust and a little dent on the wing (which wasn't my fault). Bar some little problems its pretty mint.
I can happily go by watching people do whatever they want to their car, but I personally prefer the more original stylings. Lowered by 30mm or 40mm is fine, upgrades like steering racks, good exhausts and engine mods are fine, and alloys are ok but not so much a fan of body kits (that aren't M-Tech, but still prefer the Tech1) and rubbish tat over the cars. Either way as long as they look good and are reversable I have no problem with.
However, a sport I'm a bit wary about molesting. Whereas Alpina, Hartge and Schnizter should only be owned by caring owners keeping them original and all M3s should be standard, unless at some point have had a bad crash or engine failure and then do what they want. People who have a tatty but good (or perfect) M3 and start doing rubbish to them should be banished.

Uni is killing the project.

Standard except for cd player, but i have the original...

I like to keep my cars standard, if not totally original - when retro-fittable options are plentiful and relatively inexpensive, I feel like I might as well indulge. But I wouldn't chastise anyone for personalising their car, or improving its performance - It's your choice at the end of the day. Sometimes, especially among zoners, people do come out with very desirable cars with broad appeal - there's really no harm in that.
If all the e30s around now were totally standard and original, there wouldn't be any challenge in finding the 'survivors' if one were that way inclined, and it wouldn't be so rewarding. I didn't read the thread, but there was one on here the other day whose title said there are now less than 200 tech1 sports on our roads - I would have been all the happier if I had striven to own one to be told just how rare it is. Would you want a 'special' original e30 if they were on every corner?
