where are the nice standard cars?
Moderator: martauto
hi guys i've been looking for months now for a nice standard car with sensible miles and manual either a 325i sport, alpina c2 2.7 2 door or a motorsport convertible where are they all?! i know that they are rare cars but there used to be some cars for sale but now it just seems to be messed about rubbish left! sorry im airing my fustration plus seeing one of my old cars on here hasn't helped thanks csl! if anyone does knows of anything nice then please send me a pm thanks.
Had the same problem myself when I bought mine. It's very hard to find an original example without aftermarket parts slapped on. Nothing wrong with that if it's your thing but I wanted something as it came out of the factory.
They don't exist because everyone thinks they can make a better E30 than BMW by slamming the crap out of them, adding all kinds of smoked shite to the outside and chrome crap on the inside.
But hey - WE'D ALL BE SO DULL IF WE WERE THE SAME.
Yeah, but we'd have cars that actually look and drive great too. Everyone spends silly money molesting these cars just for us to find them and return them to original. If all this modded crap is sop great why is it the stuff that everyone wants and gets the biggest money is the CLEAN ORIGINAL STUFF.
This caps lock thing is necessary now and again.

How come nearly all the nice ones i see are standard? I would say you need at least 4k for an original mint car

and you want to put your own stamp on it, where,s the harm?
The trick is to make sure any mod,s you carry out are reversible.
I fully agree that CLEAN ORIGINAL STUFF will fetch a premium, but not everyone buys a car as an investment, or even with a thought of selling it on. Would you apply the same criteria to a house purchase?, for example

i agree the annoying thing is i sold my sport in january
it had done 96000 miles full history and i mean every receipt and mot from new it was standard except a z3 short shift and i sold it in a moment of madness to a dealer. all of this because i wanted an m coupe which then went on to cost me thousands!

I am in both camps on this one.
I have an E30 M3 which is totally original, spent thousands on it and I am prepared to spend thousands more keeping it that way because it deserves to be kept that way.
However, if I had an E30 which was not so special (well most of them actually, with a few exceptions; Alpinas, Sports and the like), I would get it straight down to Fritz Bits and have them put an E46 M3 engine (plus all the bits) in it and scare myself and pretty much everyone else who went in it to death.
But I'm with most of you with all the blingy Halfords add-ons, I think they look terrible on such a great looking car.

I played the waiting game, and still ended up with a rotten chrome turd!Alex wrote:you need to play the waiting game
Clean original cars, are most of the time highly priced, But every now and then there is a bargain to be had! Dealer trade ins that are shoved down the auctions can sometimes be a good buy!

Nope saw a Black 318i chromie, white 316 chromie and black 316i facelift before I chose mine! All were in worse condition! Oh and I saw a calyspo 318i lux down the auctions but couldn't aford the insurance on it!
Still think I chose the best out of the lot!
Apart from I would have loved the calypso 318!

Not everyone wants or needs their E30 to be that quick. The 170 is plenty fun for me for my daily driver. 10x more fun in fact than the E46 330 that it replaced.fuzzy wrote:christ, do people still want original? i cant even imagine how tedious an e30 is with only 170bhp.

My iS is fairly standard, apart from stereo and speakers & HID's. All original, and in quite good condition all round!

Armani how can you go on about having a nice standard car and yet in another thread you want to slamm your IS and throw a set of BK's on.

In all fairness, I'm looking at eibach springs and bilstein dampers, and some aftermarket wheels (15", not too bad) for mine, just because I think it'll look cool. All quite easily returnable to standard, and I'll probably keep all the bits (have done with mods done to my 106)

Andy P has a nice 325 manual convertible at the moment. Very straight, black leather, dechrome H plater. Saw it tonight and it looks every bit worth the £1995 asking price.

calm down dear who bought bk reps from me and has two aqua blue doors in my garage awaiting pickup ???Felix79 wrote:Armani how can you go on about having a nice standard car and yet in another thread you want to slamm your IS and throw a set of BK's on.
BMW made a good car in the e30 doesn't mean technology hasn't moved forward, especially suspension, engines and safety equipment.
Consider hids such a huge improvement over stock headlamps or 24valve conversions with the power and smoothness BMW gave to later models or 2.7 / 2.8 litre strokers the power torque and originality e30s deserved from the outset. Suspension (not slammed kits) is also greatly improved over the years!
Personally I wanted retro looks with classic undertones coupled with modern performance. So I built what I wanted, a stock e30 wouldn't do it for me!

The doors are merly to get resprayed to preserve my alpina smart arse
I have no defence with the BK's other than I saw the light and got a staggered set of Alpina's to replace them :p
BTW Gaz are you still planning to travel at the end of the summer?
