My thinking is you could buy 3 standard e30 M3's for the price of this.

Or buy this and its surely not possible to spend £30k?.

I reckon it'd only be any good to somebody who's got a crashed/rusty M3 lookin to transplant the good stuff over...or somebody with INCREDIBLE patience.

This has been discussed so many times on many forums. It's the fact they are so rare, if I had the spare money i'd buy one they'll only go up!!!

It's not exactly a low mileage car either. Be lucky if it goes for that money.

I didn't buy mine to speculate, but judging my some of those prices. Mines worth half as much again as I paid for it in 04! TBH, you could get a fairly decent E46 CSL for that money. And that's a damn site better IMHO.

It was 10 times this car for half the price
Its very interesting, are they so much better than our council m3's

In Europe they are worth between 30-50'000 Euros all day long.

Convert Euros into pounds and there is your answer. Yes, it's worth 33 grand, but will go abroad.

the only bad thing about the M6 is it has some gay arse gearbox so i suppose the e90 m3 could be another route to take.

200 odd bhp vs 500 bhp or 410 bhp. ill let you do the math :)

But sometimes thats not everything. I'd have that car for the look of it, its status and its rarety. Not for how fast they go. If you want fast, E36 M3s aint slow either (only drove an Evo).

i would choose practicality and performance over looks any day when it comes to getting a guy. e36 m3 has got to be the best bang for buck available at the moment.

Your all missing the point, yes an e36 or 46 or m6 is a quicker car but certainly doesn't have the pedigree and thats why people buy them. It's all about the fact they were built to race on a track, and were the most successful touring car ever.

The sport evo is the ultimate m3, yes it can be replicated for less money but it's not original. Not sure how many are left but quite a bit less than the 600 made.

It's a collectors item, hence the price!!

Plus it's an e30!!!!!!!! winkeye

I think it was all a plan years ago that E30 M3 owners would spread the word how rare and sexy they were......its taken a few years for the prices to rise.

Theres only one reason for it......and thats to get back the money they have ploughed into their cars over the years!!!

Lets not mess around though. There's no heritage in a road car. The race cars were successful. If a Works Cecotto car came up for sale that's worth a premium as the car has history. This SE is just another 1 of 600 road cars. If you decide it's a collectors item, then fine. But a low mileage one would be worth that. Not something that has 80K+ on the car.

Someone may buy that car. Doesn't mean that it's worth it!

I have a damaged sport evo shell and id and I've been offered more than the price of this rolling shell, just for the ID! So a complete car is worth a chunk of money in my opion :D There are a couple in Europe for sale with more miles for 36k and 44k...

To be fair Rich you don't know how the cars been maintained or looked after? They are built to be driven.

If i owned an M3 i'd think its great price has risen its probably taken so long because they built around 17,000 of them? thats a very high run compared to say an intergrale, cosworth or quattro. 3 other iconic 80's hero chariots

Exactly. A Decent spec RS500 (guess how many of them their were) is no where NEAR that money. But that SE is now up for sale for MORE than when it was new. And it's had X number of owners and 80K+ miles on it. And as we all know there were 600 of them. If there was less than 100 then maybe. It's not some wonder car that defined a generation. It's a boyed up E30 with a bodykit. It's no McLaren F1.

There are fewer RHD E46 CSLs!

Not everyone in europe wants an RS500, so the price of them is staying stagnent right now. The M3 is wanted here as well as Europe and the states. Some say values will rocket when the Sport evo becomes 25 years old, when the Americans can actually import them.

For what its worth, the M3 is a much better built car then the RS500, and is a fair bit cheaper to fix than an E46 CSL, however, as you say, to drive, I would prefer the experiance of the CSL and the Turbo of the RS500 is pretty addictive too :D

The big difference between an M3 and a 'cossie' ,apart from the obvious one that an M3 is a far superior package, is that with the exception of the UK, 'cossies' are largely unknown and ignored. The M3 was SOLD and raced worldwide . All M3s are LHD (we won't mention the 'mutants ! ) so can be sold world wide, most road cosworths are RHD and as a result are of little interest to yank and european victims.
Another important difference that influences values and desirability is that in polite circles, whereas the M3 is seen as a masterpiece and an icon, the sierra is percieved as a slightly uncouth council chariot :)

sorry pmsl at the cossie being unknown and ignored - just goes to show you know nothing about them.

Their values are rising and have been for a while. I think you will be surprised just how much good ones go for.

I know which i would have between a RS500 or a E30 M3 and it isnt an E30 M3 :D

people want, collectors cars, sport evo's limited editions are all on the up as are good standard cars. Nobody wants a molested turd with big wheels, lowering springs etc. A genuinely GOOD M3 will fetch GOOD money.
But look at the rest of the market, everything is going up.

R4N_S_S the sierra's are tripe in comparison for a road/track toy, I had one, I hated it. Every single minute and it's true, never meet your hero's they are a let down.
Bollocks to this 24v scrap!

to be honest I like all rwd cars from the 80 and 90s so that includes E30s but my "hero" as you say is the Cossie and I will always have or want it - regardless of the fact i just broke my last one for parts lol.

As said previously good cars will ALWAYS command good money. If you leave it like how it left the factory you will get top dollar.
