Hello
My wife and I will be in the UK for the Minis 50th on the weekend of Aug 8th.
We have already booked rooms in London for the 15th to the 18th before we head back to the USA. I just noticed this event and really would like to attend.
I see on google Maps this event is 91 Miles away or 2 hours. What would be the best way to get to this even from London. Would we need to Rent a car? Or is thers some sort of Train that would take us out?
Also pardon my ignorance, but when in Gaydon will we be able to find a Taxi- cab?
Thanks
Barry

Best way to get there from london is M25 then M40 towards "The midlands or North".
But depending on where in London you are on which way round the M25 you go.
Rent a car, at least you won't be tied down by timetables and it may take more than 1 train to get you there, cabs will be very very expensive, cheaper to hire a car.

Found a Hertz place that is open on Sunday So I can get a car on the 16th..
If we leave after 9 am will we avoid some of the traffic? And plan not to get back to London untill after 8 pm.

Central london is a nightmare.
Can't remember directions from there.
Ask at the hotel how to get to the M32 and M40

Traffic is a lot lighter in London on Sundays, and you are in the right direction to head out to the M40.bam2002 wrote:Were coming from

Highly unlikely, Sir. Feel compelled to go to the Pod, however, as Mother lives just a couple of miles away. I just KNOW she'll start doing the 'I saw lots of cars that look like yours' malarky.....Rav335uk wrote:Play hard to get, i know i'll find you at gaydon hiding somewherebeemerbird wrote:TartRav335uk wrote:Well done you beautiful little thing you.

You're getting rather off topic for a thread about Gaydon, methinks.Rav335uk wrote:Well Gaydon or pod, i will get to see the mystery woman behind the keyboard, with Dans help ofcourse LOL

Thanks for the directions. Looks like we will leave at 8 am. Getting the earliest start we can. the rental car place doesnt open untill 8. If it takes 3 hours we will get there at 11 and only be 1 hour late.
Ive driven in NY , Boston, Atlanta so I can do traffic. what will be a challenge is driving on the opposite side of the road. I already have a RHD here in the US, so I can shift with my left hand.
So how big is this event? How may cars should be there?

When I have driven in France going to Le Mans I never had a problem with driving on the opposite side of the road. Once you are outside of London you will be fine on the motorways (freeways).bam2002 wrote:

Does the hire car come with sat nav? essential getting out of London.

We have activated our I phone to work over there. It has a GPS and maps.
So we should be Ok. but we will be there a week before and can test the Iphone. If it doesnt work well we will ask for a GPS with the car. Good call glad you mentioned it, I imagine London will be a pain to drive in.

London in the rush hour can be a pain during week days if your not used to it, but as you are going to be driving early at the weekend you should be fine. just head west until you hit the M25, sat nav or GPS will guide you the rest.bam2002 wrote: So we should be Ok. but we will be there a week before and can test the Iphone. Just remember on UK motorways we do not pass on both sides, drive in the left hand lane unless you need to overtake, to be honest trafic will be light once you get out of London.
