mk2 escort 1.6 should it run on 98 ron?

got a 1.6 crossflow in a kitcar that came in today.

it runs rough and cuts out and according to auto data it should run on 98 ron petrol is that right and would using standard 95 ron cause it to run so poor?

Unless its been properly converted you will need to use an additive for it to run properly on 95 ron fuel.

If its out of a Mk2 Escort and hasn't had hardened valve seats fitted in the past you need to get it done and will need to alter the timing to get it to run right without using an octane booster additive.

Check the timing first - although if its running that rough thats probably not all thats wrong with it.

yeah theres more wrong than that definetley.

its got a webber carb conversion on it aswell,

it should run fine on either octane fuel, just adjust the timing to suit. obviously 98ron will give better performance. the joys of adjusting timing without needing a remap!
unless it's had hardened valve seats it will need a lead replacement additive though
