Massively boring topic but with the prices going up....

I just mananged to eek out 346 miles from my tank, when I filled it up there was less than 1/4 of a liter in the tank.

I've neve got mor than about 310 before!!!

:):):)

If I have a right foot with a lead insert and I'm not get what I should could somebody let me know!!!

For a 320i, I'd say you're doing well. I'm fairly lead-footed as well and if I get over 300 from a tank I think I'm doing well.
Obviously, it depends on the type of journey. I've put a 3.64 diff in my Touring, for the sake of economy (I regularly do a 300 mile cross-country run). The last time I did the run, on a blazing hot day, with all the windows and the sunroof wide open, I got 32+mpg. Which would have been over 400 miles on a full tank. I'd have thought that if the windows were shut, I'd have been over 34mpg (he says - hoping!).
My real test is going to be next month when I go touring 'round the Western Isles.
Let's face it though, if you want real economy, you don't run a 15 year old BMW!

Before I changed the diff, I wouldn't have got much more than 29mpg on the same run.
Just as a matter of interest, what diff are you running Tommo?

Got a 316i, 186k miles, and ticking like a bitch.....

Have calculated it twice and I've got just over 45mpg out of the last Ԛ£20 I put in 8)

And to think, I was impressed with averaging 40! :D

Trick is sticking it in 5th and keeping the speedo at about 32mph in town, as long as you only give the throttle a very light squeeze when you want to accelerate or go up slight hills (steeper hills will need a shift down to 4th or maybe 3rd, well in my car anyway ) - you don't want to be using anywhere near full throttle under about 1500rpm......

It won't be a 4.1 then! They're fuel guzzlers. More likely to be 3.64 or 3.46. :thumb:

Only 346...?

I picked up my 525e on Sunday, and with a bit of motorway work, town driving, and 'spirited' country driving (if you can in an auto E28!) I managed to return a genuine 45mpg which was taken from a total mileage of 540 miles!

Aaaahhh... it feels good.

And all this from 2.7 litre M20 6 cylinder rightness...

Well said geeman, I get a lot of "you should get a nice little run around" or why don't you have something newer, won't it be more reliable" or do you really have to have a bmw" from my girlfriend and my ma.

Even my dad who dirves and E36 droptop (and had an e30 whilst I was young) doesn't get it. you wonder if these people are actually connected to the road when they're driving!

Style first! I had a diesel, sure, cheap to run but did it make me smile? I think not!!!

Best of both worlds....

Diesel for weekdays.....to get to work....

BMW for cruising....

Civic for Trackdays!
