Hi

Its been ages since i've been on here

The low down is i've been attempting to build an e30 with a m60 engine in for more then a year. Current state of play is I have malchite (i think) 4 door saloon, pre face lift.

The old engine is out and the m60 is sat in it waiting for me to make the mounts. I have also collected a 4 door leather interior for it and a rear disk conversion.

The problems are i've not touched it for about 4 months, in the first instance becuase of work commitments and secondly on the 3rd of last month I had a very bad motorcycle accident.

I currently only pay 120 a month for the workshop, but the principle renter my friend is giving it up a the end of the month, so if me and another friend take it on it'll cost me 200 a month.

I'm basically agonising over whether its worth that amount of expense for and old bmw as obviously the actual project will cost a lot as well. so i dont know whether to sell it as a job lot for someone to go at or try to continue when i am well again

Personally, being the cheapskate I am, I'd pop the leather interior and rear discs into the car, and leave it with its standard engine, (maybe keep the m60 engine in the garage for a bit?) and run the car for a while till you are in a more stable position to be able to do the engine conversion.

Other than that, can you justify that extra £80 a month out of pocket? If you can then maybe its an idea to do that, and maybe then you can let out a section of the said workshop to be able to fund doing more?

Could do well out of renting it out, theres alot of people willing to do that as they don't have the space to fulfill their hobbies.

Jezz, hope the accident hasn't affected you too much mate and you recover well.

It's all down to opinion really, you yourself only know the real answer. It's quite a big project but one that I'm sure will bring rewards. You reap what you sow

Do you see yourself having anymore spare time and funds to do it? I got in the rut of having a project sat on the drive for almost a year and doing nothing with it. I went to a few meets and seeing the other zoners cars got my enthusiasm back again. Why not drawer up a timeline with associated costs and see if it's feasible?

A pre-facelift in a wicked colour with an M60 will be a hell of a car, I would love to see one built on the zone and wish you all the best with whatever decision you go with.

as above really. You could rent some of the workshop space out.

Do a post on here to see if there's anyone local to you who may want to share it with you.

Don't give up the fight, and get well soon. :D

thanks for replies, in ref to them

cheers guys :D , i'm healing well another 3 or 4 weeks and i'll be finally walking again without crutches thanks to the titanium nail in my thigh

the 180 a month would be me sharing with 2 mates , ones on the cards already need to find another, its an expensive workshop but its excellent in terms of size and facilities.

I suppose it is an old car but it would be unique at the end of it all , i'm not good at decisions

Sorry to read about you trying to become an organ donor and failing...
Always a problem when you have a project on the go and you are renting workshop space,it all adds up to a significant part of the project cost.
No alternative to renting space?
No room at home to work on the car?
Any chance of a move to a place where there is room?
Can only start to see the number of issues that you have still to find answers to,they all take time, either in engineering solutions or just plain old nuts and bolt work!
After I broke my wrist at work a few years ago,I was having trouble getting it to work properly again, the physio gave me all sorts or exercises to do,I found that stripping and re-building an M20 to be the best physio!
Do not give it up,you will regret it later...
