What is this button...

Need technical Q/A then you're in the right place

...in front of the drivers side electric window buttons.
When pressed it shows red around the edge and pops up. Has no markings on.

I take it you have 4 electric windows??????
It is a kill switch for the rear windows, if it doesn't work, pull it out, maybe its bee disconnected below.

No, just the front two are electric, rear are winders.

Its a factory button so I assume it has a purpose.
Sport button? :p

I have one of these as said above its simply to a cut of button for the window buttons once pressed it should stop your windows from working

i seem to remember brianmoooooooooooooore saying its a tripping/reset-able fuse

No as above its a lock for the leccy windows i have the same button and it does just what i said

It's not a lock, neither is it a switch. It's a resettable cut out, and should be left alone, unless it's tripped!

lol it was sooooooo embarrasing :o: - pulled into my garage and told the mech dunno what's happened but both windows not working - he pressed the switch back in :o: :o: :o: :o: :mad: :mad:

Either way when I press it my windows are locked so even though u may be correct I still class it as some kind of window lock

Your windows are 'locked' anyway, when the doors are closed and the ignition off. Why would you want a secondary 'lock'?
If you continually operate the 'switch', you will damage it, and it will fail to hold on. It just isn't designed for continuous operation.

I know what u mean and ur knowledge of E30's is not to be argued with, I never use mine but the few times I have was to stop my passenger from opening the window

surely the passenger can reach the button. or, you could suggest they dont use the window........ hmmmmm the possibilities

oh thats what it is. The night i bought the car i pressed it and it popped up stopping the windows from working AND the stereo IIRC. never touched it since

Silly me ! I thought it was a button for the dad to press when he didn't want the kids playing with the leccy windows.
