As the thing arrived at my door, that's the wife telling me I am cr
azy(i already knew that..)Image

Found this lot in the boot..

Image
And this...I've put it back now I now what it is..

ImageImage
R/H hood rear quarter has this small wear mark...Image
Driver's side rear speaker cover is missing in action.
ImageImage
http://i219.photobucket.com/albums/cc20 ... C_0134.jpg[/IMG]

This will have to go,BMW's have 6 pots!Image

Passenger side interior as it arrived. The alarm took me two half days to remove!
Image
Drivers side as it arrived..Image
Worst part of the interior, driver's seat.I have found some fabric for the bolster, but I am stuck for fabric for the centre panels.Anyone got some?A rear seat from a neon green cabbie will do me,I can collect and will pay your price!
Image
Image
Car stripped ready for the bodyshop.
Needs rear arches and one or two other bits welding.
I decided to pay the experts to do the bodywork,so that it will look right!
As at Friday afternoon, the shell is largly rubbed down ready for paint and the welding was about to start.
Bonnet and boot lids were in the spay booth, just been painted.
Fresh neon green is a bit bright....
On other bits,I have the interior bits mostly cleaned and ready to go back, driver's seat is stripped,I found that the base of the frame was broken on the l/h side...I have a replacement frame and the cleaned inner bolsters have been re-fitted.Jane is going to sew up replacement bolster covers for the r/h side someday soon, just leaving the centre panels to sort out.
One idea is to trim both theigh extentions in plain grey, leaving the patterned bits to make good the main parts, any thoughts?
Look out for the next update....

I shall be fitting the 2.7 from my 4 door into this one, along with the re-furbished front struts that I built up last year. These struts are 51mm ones's with new M-tec springs and matching Borge gas dampers.I have a pair of M-tec cabbie rear springs on order to go with the dampers that will come off the saloon.
All the redundant cabbie bits(except rear springs)will be re-cycled into the 4 door to create a laches 318ise complete with rust patches that will be sold to help offset the cabbie costs.(well, that's what the wife expects..!)
The 2.7 will see a bit of TLC whilst it's on the garage floor, there's an oil leak from the base of the crankcase breather and I have started to re-furbish a head which will receive a 323 cam that as been in 'stock' for a while now.
Mike in Australia, did you get any neon green cabbies there?Hunting for centre seat fabric.... happy to cover your costs..

Both arches are solid on the inside, the rot is all on the outer lip.

And back to my work, this is the driver's seat frame stripped to it's underpants, note the break in the base!
I have found a better one,and now have the undamaged l/h bolsters back on with freashly washed covers.

If,when I pulled the carpet out I had found the front footwells rotten I would have had to question going on with it!
The arches and sills are near enough cosmetic, pacer pete would have described it as a '30 foot car',so the full respray seemed to make sense.
How do you like the temporary drivers seat above? winkeye

Will be following this thread - looks like a nice little project (even though I think the neon colour scheme is horrid! :o: ). Have you thought about fitting a slushbox? A torquey 2.7 in a cab with a switchable auto would be a nice combination - I guess that's what B7 is up to with his white one.

If the left hook to right, m50 touring was 'daimlerman's folly', then what's the moniker for this un?

Each to thier own with the colour scheme, must admit I was a little suprised when I peeped into the spray booth on Friday, the bonnet is BRIGHT!
Switchable auto has crossed my mind,Jane would certainly go for it!Anybody care to outline the snags, bits required, wiring issues for it's ECU?

20 year old ZF EH Autobox - troublesome pile of old shyte.

Standard 325i 5 speed manual - never goes wrong. I will have one by the weekend along with prop. :D

No idea where you will find that vile trim again. I'd wait until November 5th for a suitable solution, and then fit leather. winkeye

It's the originality issue, plus it's just one seat....
We are toying with having just the fronts leather, maybe just the centres in a neon green leather?(ducks for cover..) winkeye

Looking good Malc! looks like you've been busy!

My 318 arrived back from the body shop today looking a lot less like a tea bag! There will be some respraying to do around the rear arch repair, but I have no wings yet so I'll get that done when I have all of the panels. :D

Not only was the seat frame snapped, but most of the recline/hieght ajuster lever was in the boot!I felt that the easiest way to sort both issues was a better seat frame.
Still struggling for seat fabric, cannot even find anthricite draylon for the bolsters at the moment!
If anyone has a pair of anthricite r/h bolsters please let me know,Jane claims to be able to swap the piping over!
