Noticed the other day when crawling through traffic for a while - stop, start, stop, start - that the biting point for my clutch was getting further and further down the travel of the pedal to the point that the car was just about crawling along with the pedal fully down. I thought "great! clutch gone!", but then engaged neutral, let off the clutch, then went back into 1st gear and the biting point was back where it started, about half way down. This has happened a couple of time since - always when edging forward bit by bit in traffic.

So what's happening?

Sounds like your clutch slave cylinder is on its way out Pete, or possibly the master cylinder, check for fluid loss at the clutch reservoir, if its well down check the master cylinder inside the car up by the top of the clutch pedal if its dry then go to the slave cylinder on the side of the clutch housing and check for leaks there its a bummer mate but better than replacing a cutch. cheers Dave

One of your clutch cylinder's has had it.
Check the fluid level to see if it's dropped. If it has then the seals have gone.
If it's the slave cylinder then it could be leaking into the bell housing and look like oil dripping from the join between engine and gearbox.
Or it could be the master cylinder and that will leak into the interior and run down behind the carpet and rot the foam backing and the paintwork.

If you replace the master cylinder then buy the steel one, The aluminium one is poor quality and won't last too long.
There is NO nucleus.
