Yo guys, just hit the 100 post mark today, and it's my birthday too!! :D :D :D :D

I've turned 18 today, and have passed my tet since march first time no minors anything.

Been checking insurance since then, and the cheapest was £6,000 on my mums name with her ncb on a 1.4 pugster 106 lol!

I've seen an E30 near me for sale, a silver cab pre facelift and I'm thinking of buying myself a present today, but I'm a bit put off by the insurance.

So what do you guys recomend, cheap ways to get insurance and so on. I hope its a 1.8

Haven't been up close to it yet, it's sitting on the petrol station forecourt looking very sad, and I may have to go and rescue it.

Happy Birthday! Do you live in a particularly rough postcode? Your insurance quote is astounding

You could try classic insurance? Not sure if you'll get it with having no NCB and being 18 but it's worth a shot!

Otherwise, Bell are pretty good for young drivers.

That was the same for a nissan micra aswell, 1 litre, lol, third party fire and theft, came to £6k cheapest.

Checked an E30 1.6, came to £10k.

How do they expect students to drive lol.

As for my area, it is quite rough yes, one of the worst areas in london I reckon, SLOUGH SAYS IT ALL.
Sloughs the worst for insurance lol.

I just don't know what to do. I need to drive aswell.

You are a student?
Is the postcode where you study(ha ha winkeye )any more favourable?
Take heart,as the years roll by and you loose your hair, car insurance gets to be more affordable.

Try get your own quotes. Rather than be on your mums.

I had a 1.6L fiesta on my own name for £670 at 17? wtf is up with your quote? Serious, look around and check for your own quotes on www.gocompare.com or something. Once you've found one, you may get it a bit cheaper by speaking to that company directly.

Look for a little 316 or 316i at your age. Not worth paying more for a 318i that's power difference is slim. Besides, a 316 is a carbed 1.8L and probably similar insurance to a 316i, a tad quicker, solid engine and probably the cheapest to find to. Weber carb and a bit of fiddling :)

Didn't pay too much attention to the posts lol. £10k for an E30...

How on earth can they charge you more than the car is worth? Does everyone in Slough get their car nicked on a daily basis and have plenty of Ferrari's to crash into. Stupid.

It'd be cheaper to get that £10K, move elsewhere, buy an E30 (maybe even a 320i) and insure. Fook me...

Things to consider would be Pass Plus, renting or borrowing a garage for overnight storage, especially out of your particular postcode, keeping a 316 in poverty spec etc.

Cheaper than a pug 106 :winkeye:

Gutted fella. You have to remember that these are BMWs. Nicked frequently, big cars, some are powerful and most importantly, not that safe in an accident in comparison to modern cars. That'll have an affect on the insurance for your age, no matter how good of a driver you are. Also, where your postcode is may be notorious for kids your age stacking cars. :?

Worser than britwell, Chalvey!

I think about 2 months ago some chavs stopped a guy driving in his audi, punched him up, and nicked his audi.

My uncles vauxhal got nicked and torched
Every car gets widnows smashed.
Chavs running all over pelting stones at busses.

LOl, all becuase of this, I'm deprived of my e30 obsession and driving now.

The answer is only going to be to have it garaged elsewhere, but that defeats the object. You got any relatives in posh areas? :)

If that saved you three grand a year, for instance, wouldn't that take the sting out of the walk?
