Tell him to f*ck right off dude.

Have you got any pics of the damage to the rear as I've just had a rear end shunt and hope that it's not also a write off.

I saw the pic of the rear damage and it don't look that bad, should really be cat B only if it needs a shell IMO, but there's no disputing it is a total loss (write off)

I reckon the assessor or someone he knows wants those wheels. If it is cat B you are not allowed to break the vehicle yourself unless you are a licensed agent.

here's a link that advises on the salvage categories

Eek, is the boot floor buckled at all?

IIRC you needed a new rear bumper anyway?

No damage to the floor plan thankfully.

I did want the bumper resprayed and also a new rear pannel so I get the bonus of someone else paying for it so long as the assessor okay's it.

Hopefully they wont leave it as a Cat B mate but if they are going to write it off and you cant keep it is there any chance you'd strip the sideskirts and door pods off before it's taken away.

I really dont want to seem like a scavenger but i'm in dire need of them to finish my kit and id hate to see them sitting in some scrappies yard only to be wrecked.

Thanks mate!

I had the same problem with my insurance company several years ago. I am an RAC member so rang their legal helpline for advice. I recomend you do the same. They gave me some legal phrase to throw at them, it worked a charm and I was able to keep the wreck. They also advised me to move the car after the engineer had seen it in case the insurance company pulled a fast one and tried to take the car away while I was at work. I had it trailered to a friends house for safe keeping. If you think the car is not a wreck you could get your own engineer's report done.

Richy can't keep his car as it is cat B salvage and the law states you have to be a licensed breaker/salvage dealer to be able to break cat b. This is to stop this kind of car being the chassis numbers etc for a ringer and also to prevent a structurally unsafe vehicle which is not capable of any economic repair finding itself back onto the road.

There's no point Richy getting his own report as it will cost him about Ԛ£80 and it won't make any difference. If the independent engineer perhaps was generous and put it into cat C salvage then the insurers would deduct the salvage value from his settlement, so would be worse off.

Besides Richy seems pretty happy with the way things are turning out. 8)

You never know what the insurance companies are going to do these days.

They probably price a sport's value at about 2k. The repairs to my car are gonna cost 1.5k. They would deem it uneconomical to repair, I'm just gonna have to wait and see.

@ stevo_sideways - If they do decide to write it off, there's no chance anyone is taking it off my hands, I wouldn't accept the payment for it, there'll be no breaking up of my car I can tell you!! I'd rather take the hit in the wallet and repair it myself than it be classed as a writeoff for that minor damage.

Richy, you're probably looking at around 3 months to sort the whiplash claim.

If ever you need a second opinion on anything, then just give me a shout, happy to help
