is this any good for a 2.7 conversion or is it just the e30 2.4 d crank thats any good

It's the E30 2.4 crank that you need.
You can try an E36 crank, there is a slim chance it could work with modification but I wouldn't bother.

ok just i have a complete engine at work might be worth striping to see what do i need to look for ?

I assume you would need to do simular mods to the crank like you were using a M52B28 crank, do a search on that for more details.
You would also need to try this crank in a M20 block with pistons and see what you get. If it has been tried before I don't think it's been wrote about on the zone so you need to try for yourself.

The 325d engine uses an 82.8mm crank. That will give 2753 cc's! Given the stroke length using 325i pistons would leave them short of top of the bores by about 1.7mm giving you a low CR. Good for a turbo if thats what you want. So custom piston might be needed.
