I have fitted my replacement clio servo and this one doesn't clunk, so all is well with the world again.
But I fitted a spacer into the master cylinder which was about 15mm in length. This resulted in me only having about 50% pedal travel before the pedal would go no further. I also really had to push the master cylinder onto the studs on the servo.
So today I removed the master cylinder and took out the spacer and then fitted the m/c back. It still had to be pushed firmly for the last 10mm when it was on the threads. I now have full pedal travel and there is no apparent delay in hearing the servo being pushed when i press the brake pedal.
So really I'm asking is the spacer always necessary?
I will be bleeding the system tomorrow and the turd will go and stop for the first time.

How far into the servo does the pushrod lie?
On the standard E30 servo,the pushrod just pokes out.

using E30 m/c.
The servo pushrod seems to stick out further on this servo compared to the other one I had. I'm confident it is OK.
Just started bleeding the brakes and the heavens have opened, grrrrr. I'm not lying in a puddle on the driveway bleeding brakes, no no
