E30's are nice cars. But E30s can be much better cars with simple upgrades, such as good suspension shocks and a small drop, an uprated steering rack and a few engine modifications. People who do this often enjoy the personal aesthetic improvements such as smoked lights, alloy wheels and other little bits of tat. I'm one of those people.

Then you get the council scrap that people do which involves a glued on body kit and "paint brushed" respray. These cars do often get the piss taken out of them in the first place.

There was over a million E30's made during their stint in the market. Most are still very common models and originals can be found at a fair price. By all means, someone should be free to take a 2 door 325i or even a 325i sport in mint condition and "bastardise" it if they so please. Now if you got a MINT M3, I'd say you'd be warned and told off by a fair few people if you ruin them, but still it happens. Luckily, people who own alpina's, schnitzer's and Hartge's often look after their cars and don't molester them, which means they are still around.

Remember, there is a stupid amount of E30's around for a 20 year old car.

Oh and I'm 21, got a high 'C' for GCSE english and thats it. I think my knowledge of the language is decent enough. My grammar may not be the best, but I'm not writing a graded essay, I'm posting on an internet forum in a take on english that generally relates to how I speak. Read Magpie's and EssexGirlRacer's posts and they would not right like that when taking an exam in english.

Besides, English is a rubbish degree :teehee:

with your attitude I would say wrong turn, remember e30 are nice cars full of character and fun to own and drive some should be preserved (exceptionally nice one's/rare models) but they are also a cheap light rwd car that are a good basis to tune and still pretty common we are not talking about a rare car like a ancient jag or aston here, they are a boxy little 80's bmw and alot of them have little value as a collectors car or just a general motor from what i have seen the zone is populated by all types of owners with cars rangeing from hacked about toys (like mine) to very professionally converted cars to those with very nice original cars that see more than their fair share of polish. every one on here enjoys their car in different ways deal with it. you may get hard over a immaculate standard trailer queen only wheeled out in the sun to go to a show. Others would prefer to drop a nice powerful lump in and enjoy their car sideways, accept the fact and you will get on fine.

oh and i don’t give a F**k if you have 12 degrees in english and i cant spell to save my life this doesn’t make you opinion any more valid than mine or anyone else’s :flipbird: remember that, this site is a very good source of helpful people, info and parts and snobbery will get you nowhere.

also why no matter what breed of motor you into is there always some gits of the anorak persuasion that bleat about what other people do with their cars? get this every now and again with the land rover peeps particularly the likes of the range rover register lot. "what!? how dare you cut the back off that rotten 2 door rangy fit big wheels and enjoy it off road, no you must spend thousands restore it the put it in a barn wrapped in bubble wrap only to see the light of day to be polished and taken to a show" - sorry i am ranting but this attitude bugs me, just for you beerboy - this season i are mostly be fitting a m50, painting it matt black tinting the windows and possibly a side exit 'zorst of some description. why? because it my car and i can :D :D :D

To point out the original argument; E-type vs E-30...

Jag designed the E30 as a gentleman's cruiser. BMW designed the 3-series for monied middle management. Completely different markets, and that's why the E-type was never available with Tech 2 spoilers from the factory.

When I bought mine and called my Dad to explain, it took three attempts to remind him what E30's look like, cos he's not a car nut. "It's the one with the four round headlights... it's the blocky square one... It's the one drug dealers had in the '80s." BINGO. That third definition reminded him exactly which BMW I'd bought, so casting aspersions as to the tuning and modding crowd "tarnishing the reputation" of E30s, which are already pretty low in the public eye and only just coming to the attention of the classic crowd, is pitiful at best.

And as for the spelling and grammar; if you had even one degree in English you'd know the arguments between Prescriptivism and Descriptivism and why it doesn't really matter at all how someone spells, as long as you can read the message.

Try to open up - the Zone is for everyone, not just for pedants. And watch "Harold And Maude":

at the end of the day, if someone has put time and money in to either modding their car up or restoring it to as original condition as possible and they are happy, what does it matter? there are plenty of people around who will always be putting in that time and money to keeping good, original E30's on the road and there are plenty of people modifying cars to a high standard as well, as long as its not from the halfords school of modification! winkeye

Apologies again.

I feel my original point was valid enough but of course people can and will do what they like to their cars. I should not have mentioned spelling, just made me look an arrogant t*t really.

It is true that most 'classics' benefit from subtle modernisation, even E-Types and the like have specialists who provide aircon, better cooling, better gearboxes, power steering etc. I will seek to improve aspects of my E30 too, but externally and I think leave well alone.

Of course, I realise I won't get much help and goodwill now if I ask for help or advice! I can only apologise again.

The image of this modern classic is going to be tarnished if we're not careful. And while I'm ranting, the boy racers can't spell either.

Two independent points, one which I regret:

1. I don't think it's right to spoil nice original cars

2. In my opinion, bad spelling and grammar looks bad. Apologies to dyslexics, I never meant any offence, I was just criticising careless postings.

whats your problem, no one is the same

can you not just accept the fact its like this, alot of people on here will disagree with you, and a lot of members who have modified e30s have had them for years from when the e30 was just an old car

Dig-a-hole-dig-a-hole-dig-a-hole....

I dont think BEERBOY123 meant it as seriously as he did. Which he states regreting those posts.

I think he's relating the boy racers / bad grammar to the people who do this...

Which is exactly why I enjoy this forum with its diversity of cars and people.

As Steve said earlier, its all about the E30, in its many guises and styles, engine sizes and modifications.

Some people don't like my car, I'm sure.

Indeed it has. The fact that it's not everyone's cup of tea is, in my opinion, a good thing anyway

I don't want a car that is a clone of hundreds or thousands of others, but that's just me.

These days most 'unmolested' E30s are in fact 'heavily restored' anyway :?
