what to do??

Im stuck between a rock and a hard place... my little black 318i is in dire need of an engine swap, i previously had an engine from a 325i in it, but the highway patrol didnt like it and defected me :'(

Do i go for the M42 and tweak it a bit? i know there is one E30 here thats had the rotary treatment, but a rotary is kinda out of the question though, caus P platers here cant drive turbos, V8's or supercharged cars.

iv had so many suggestions and now my little brain has gone into self destruct mode and i just do not know what to do....
what would be the least painful of all conversions to do??

I would say go for the 325i engine but it sounds like you have stricter rules over there

The IS engine is a good little 4 pot and other people wouldn't really notice the change unless they knew about engines etc, as it looks very similar to what you have in there now.

Go for the IS engine if you can't have a 2.5

cops here suck and didnt like the fact it wasnt engineered...... it was my fault, but i didnt think they would ask me to open her up o they could look. I know half of bathursts police force, but lucky me, i got pulled up by a copper from another town... :'( and so i recieved a lovely defect sticker but yeh, the IS engine is looking more and more suitable, but finding one in this stupid country is going to be hard
