I am currently replacing the plastic panel that fits around the radio, heater/air controls, clock, etc. in the centre of the dashboard. While I was pulling the old one out I noticed a light blue wire with a black wire soldered to the end of it that appeared to be connected to something on the bottom of the front of the head unit. Now that I have pulled everything out the wire is just sitting there with no connector on the end of it and I never unplugged it. There is also nothing on the bottom of the front of the head unit for it to plug into so I am guessing that it was just stuck there and not really meant to be there. Now I don't know where it goes.

Here is a picture:

I doubt that the black wire on the end is factory. The whole thing looks like someone has been hacking around in there and then tried to throw it back together as quickly as possible or something. The light blue wire has one of those small metal "quick connect" female connector bits (I wish I knew what I was talking about, sorry I'm not good with this stuff) and that is what the black wire is soldered to. The black wire is just cut off at the end.

Here is where that same blue wire goes into the carpet in the passenger footwell bit:

It is a fairly thick wire compared to some of the others in there and it looks kind of important.

If anyone can tell me where this wire is meant to go I would be very grateful.

Thanks,

It looks like something aftermarket, possibly an electric aerial, maybe an old CD changer cable?

Either way, cars this old usually have a spiders web of old wires which don't lead anywhere, my advice would be rip it out and see if anything stops working; I ripped out enough wiring from behind my dash to totally rewire the car, all of it useless.

Could be a CD changer cable or something. I just remembered that the previous owner had a full sound system in it (head unit, speakers, amp, subs) so maybe a CD changer too, and I don't know what before that.

mrLee30 has also been helping me and he thought a similar thing so that seems like what it could be. I don't know if I can pull it out easily, it goes under the carpet to who knows where, so I might just cable tie it to something else.

Thanks.

If there are any other different opinions I would still like to read them.

mrLee30 Has also been helping me with this (Thanks very much!) and he said that on his car that wire goes to the fan control. Mines back together again now and the fan works so that blue wire must have been replaced, which is quite possible because I have had people playing around in there to get the air conditioning working.

BUT Stoney_god maybe you should check that your fan works and have a look around in there to see if everything is still connected up ok!
