A nice E46 for sale near me, 330i (or Ci, still not sure on the difference...) with the whole M-Sport package. A nice blue in colour with black leather interior.

All in good nick by the seems of things, well looked after (untill the young guy lost his license! Now in need of a clean!). Its had a new waterpump and all new belts, apparently a good service history (haven't seen the reciepts yet), sounds smooth and has done 39K miles. (which is jersey is probably about 1/2 its life expectancy!). All for less than £10K.

Now, I haven't taken it out for a spin as I told the guy I'm interested, but not definate I can afford it so rather than pester for a drive, I'll go back if i can afford it... which he said was fine.

So what are peoples thoughts on the E46 sports?

That seems mega money to me! Do you pay a premium over there? Can't you get a UK model with a 'better' 80k on it for about £5000.

hmmm, interesting point but "premium"? what do you mean by that?

I suppose you could push 100k before the car is well due for a revamp/scrapper. Its hard to tell how far those cars can do over hear as I doubt any have made it that far yet.

Its revamp up the 325i or buy a new car.

Kicking myself for not looking at an E36 M3 Evo (3.2L) that popped up a few weeks back. They are sooo rare over here. Insurance is probably killer on those cars though. Looked mint for £8K. AdrianFlux offers me £900 for the 330i whereas its around 2K for the M3. My insurance company usually beats the UK quotes by a fair wack but still £1k-£1.5K is alot for insurace. Especially at 21!

Also, UK cars die quickly over here unless they are new enough (<20K-30K miles). The amount of stop/start driving and lack of anything similar to a dual-carrigeway/motorway etc just raggs UK engines. Our engines sort of adapt/wear to our roads! Its the same the other way round. Our engines die very quickly over there if you import them.

Cars do seem to be on the marginally higher side, but the milage is minimal in comparison with the uk, and miles take a while to rack up in a 9m by 5m island :)

Theres an E39 M5 for sale over here... 18K. lol

Why the hell would I buy a cabby? Also we had scortching hot 28'C tempratures last week... Its cloudly and rainy now, so the moods gone :chuckle:

Blitz, theres an E46 M3 over here for sale too! ...

You'd be better off getting a car from the UK. Stop/start driving is the killer, and short journeys knacker the interiors because you're hauling yourself in and out of the seat more often.
Engines do not adapt to different types of roads, they just wear out faster on short journeys because they get more heat cycles/mile.

Untill I learn UK cars cost £1000 to import, £250 to re-register and bump up insurance prices :chuckle:

+ the cost of going to see it, tempory UK insurance, £300-£400 quid to bring back on the ferry... and the severe petrol costs to bring it from whereever in the UK.... ouch.

Cars are more expensive over here second hand, but you get less car problems and parts dont wear as much (apart from the gearbox and possible the cylinder head etc), cheaper parts and so on. But buying a car is a lot cheaper over here as we have a 3.5% GST tax rather than 17.5% in the UK... which is a massive bonus when looking for an expensive new car.

Btw, interiors stay just as mint over here, maybe moreso than the UK...

I've had my E46 (a humble 318ci) for 3 months now and its without doubt the most complete car I've ever owned. Superbly built, nice and smooth, looks fantastic and just stupidly refined. They're great cars when in decent health.

Mine has full BMWSH and is a low mileage example but make sure you get one with a warranty. Mine has already been back for a few problems (mainly electrical components) and whilst none of this is a major issue its a bit annoying after 10 faultless years of driving both E30s and E36s where failure of parts has been minimal. Thats the delights of the electrical treat that a modern BMW is though.

I'll still bet you that a 50,000 miler from the UK will be in better mechanical condition. Rust is another question :(
