how many tins of hammerite would it take to paint this?
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... 0353716920
thinking of tracking it as the winning bidder is saying he does not want it and he made a mistake bidding.
so a few questions
1. is it safe to cut the springs?
2. how much weight can be stripped out with out failing mot
3. how much would the car weigh in at after a no mersy stripping (every thing will go that can all side windows replaced with plastic etc.)
4. what sort of handling could i expect with cut springs (if its safe to do so) and all the weight saving, will also be rolling on 235 17 45 goodyear eagle f1's
5. how much will 0-60 time be improved by the above (currently about 8.5)
the plan is why it only owes me 300 is to do the above and i also have a full exhaust (stainless) and a k&n plan to take the main beem out for a cold air feed etc.
want to make it a nice track rat for pennys i dont expect it to be a rocket or anything just wanna have some fun in it!
is this a good idea or is it a bad choice of car to use as i know there heavy boats etc but would like to see how they perform when lighter!
your opinions/answers are much welcome thanks.
e34 mite amuse some lol!

Cut springs are a big no. Unsafe and ruin the handling.

These e34's weigh ALOT and it appears to be mainly down to their structural build as opposed to removable parts. Bonnet/boot are very heavy!
I would rather buy some cheap 2nd hand springs than cut any- use the money for painting the car to do that
No point in painting it IMO. It will still look ratty and cool stripped out and slammed anyway!
I would imagine that the handling would be pretty poor tbh
Unless you have a bit of money to spend playing around with different suspension set-ups.
I would be surprised if you could get it below 1500kg easily, and then I suppose it will only be as fast as an e36 325i which aint bad tbh.
Removing a headlight may be a problem come mot

i've heard of cut springs falling out
as the car hits a bump at a certain speed, car bounces, spring comes loose, rear of the car feels funny, you look in rear view mirror, see spring springing down the road, now you and the car feel funny.

Unless you are prepared to shell out £600 - £700 on uprated suspension parts you are wasting your time
